Then Jehoshaphat added,“ First seek an oracle from the LORD.”

But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel,“ First seek the counsel of the Lord.”

Jehoshaphat continued,“ First ask the Lord for advice.”

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Inquire first for the word of the Lord.”

Then Jehoshaphat added,“ But first let’s find out what the Lord says.”

But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ First, please ask what the LORD’s will is.”

However, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please request the word of the Lord first.”

Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah.

But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ First, please ask what the Lord’s will is.”

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”

Jehoshaphat asked,“ Is there no prophet of the LORD here that we might seek the LORD’s direction?” One of the servants of the king of Israel answered,“ Elisha son of Shapat is here; he used to be Elijah’s servant.”

They said to him,“ Please grant our request and pray to the LORD your God for all those of us who are still left alive here. For, as you yourself can see, there are only a few of us left out of the many there were before.Pray that the LORD your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.”The prophet Jeremiah answered them,“ Agreed! I will indeed pray to the LORD your God as you have asked. I will tell you everything the LORD replies in response to you. I will not keep anything back from you.”They answered Jeremiah,“ May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not do just as the LORD sends you to tell us to do.We will obey what the LORD our God to whom we are sending you tells us to do. It does not matter whether we like what he tells us or not. We will obey what he tells us to do so that things will go well for us.”

Then Jehoshaphat added,“ First seek an oracle from the LORD.”So the king of Israel assembled 400 prophets and asked them,“ Should we attack Ramoth Gilead or not?” They said,“ Attack! God will hand it over to the king.”

The Israelites went up to Bethel and asked God,“ Who should lead the charge against the Benjaminites?” The LORD said,“ Judah should lead.”

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

After Joshua died, the Israelites asked the LORD,“ Who should lead the invasion against the Canaanites and launch the attack?”

And he will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the decision of the Urim. At his command they will go out, and at his command they will come in, he and all the Israelites with him, the whole community.”

“ Please ask the LORD to come and help us, because King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is attacking us. Maybe the LORD will perform one of his miracles as in times past and make him stop attacking us and leave.”

So Saul said to Ahijah,“ Bring near the ephod,” for he was at that time wearing the ephod.

So David asked the LORD once again. But again the LORD replied,“ Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand.”

So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD and did not obey the LORD’s instructions; he even tried to conjure up underworld spirits.

“ Son of man, these men have erected their idols in their hearts and placed the obstacle leading to their iniquity right before their faces. Should I really allow them to seek me?

The men examined some of their provisions, but they failed to ask the LORD’s advice.

So Israel hid men in ambush outside Gibeah.

So David asked the LORD,“ Should I go and strike down these Philistines?” The LORD said to David,“ Go, strike down the Philistines and deliver Keilah.”

When David realized that Saul was planning to harm him, he told Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod!”Then David said,“ O LORD God of Israel, your servant has clearly heard that Saul is planning to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me.Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, please inform your servant!” Then the LORD said,“ He will come down.”David asked,“ Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me and my men into Saul’s hand?” The LORD said,“ They will deliver you over.”

The Israelites went up and wept before the LORD until evening. They asked the LORD,“ Should we again march out to fight the Benjaminites, our brothers?” The LORD said,“ Attack them!”

But the LORD’s angelic messenger told Elijah the Tishbite,“ Get up, go to meet the messengers from the king of Samaria. Say this to them:‘ You must think there is no God in Israel! That explains why you are on your way to seek an oracle from Baal Zebub the god of Ekron.
