As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said,“ Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over, and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

亚哈王经过的时候，他向王喊道：“仆人在打仗的时候，有人押来一个俘虏，要我看管，他说如果俘虏跑掉，我就要以性命抵偿或赔偿三十四公斤银子。

王从那里经过的时候，他向王呼叫说：“你仆人出征，在战阵之中，忽然有一个人转过来，带了另一个人来见我，说：‘你看守这个人，他若是走失了，就要你替他偿命，否则你要支付三十公斤银子。’

王從那裏經過，他向王哀叫說：『僕人出戰在戰陣之中、忽有人轉來，帶了一個人來交給我、說：「你看守這人；倘若遺失不見了，就要將你的性命去代替他的性命；不然，你就必須交出一擔銀子來。」

王過之、則呼曰、僕在陳時、有人執敵、轉詣我曰、爾守此人、如其失之、必以爾命代其命、或罰爾銀一他連得、

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said,‘ Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.’

The king passed by. Then the prophet called out to him. He said,“ I went into the middle of the battle. Someone came to me with a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man. Don’t let him get away. If he does, you will pay for his life with yours. Or you can pay 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed, he cried to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out seventy-five pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he goes missing, then your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

When the king passed by, he called out to the king,“ Your servant went out into the heat of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. He told me,‘ Guard this prisoner. If he ends up missing for any reason, you will pay with your life or with a talent of silver.’

So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men outside, and said,“ If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.”

Don’t let riches entice you to wrath, neither let the great size of a bribe turn you aside.

He began to speak to them in parables.“ A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.Again, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.Again he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.Therefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those farmers said among themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’They took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.Haven’t you even read this Scripture:‘ The stone which the builders rejected was made the head of the corner.This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes’?”They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him,“ There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.The rich man had very many flocks and herds,but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan,“ As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”Nathan said to David,“ You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says:‘ I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

If a ransom is imposed on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is imposed.

none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him.

The king said to her,“ What ails you?” She answered,“ Truly I am a widow, and my husband is dead.Your servant had two sons, and they both fought together in the field, and there was no one to part them, but the one struck the other, and killed him.Behold, the whole family has risen against your servant, and they say,‘ Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he killed, and so destroy the heir also.’ Thus they would quench my coal which is left, and would leave to my husband neither name nor remainder on the surface of the earth.”

When they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and lifted up his voice, cried out, and said to them,“ Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.The trees set out to anoint a king over themselves. They said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us.’“ But the olive tree said to them,‘ Should I stop producing my oil, with which they honor God and man by me, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’“ The trees said to the fig tree,‘ Come and reign over us.’“ But the fig tree said to them,‘ Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’“ The trees said to the vine,‘ Come and reign over us.’“ The vine said to them,‘ Should I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’“ Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ Come and reign over us.’“ The bramble said to the trees,‘ If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’“ Now therefore, if you have dealt truly and righteously, in that you have made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands( for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;and you have risen up against my father’s house today and have slain his sons, seventy persons, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother);if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house today, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you;but if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem and from the house of Millo and devour Abimelech.”

He said to him,“ Yahweh says,‘ Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”

The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.

knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ,
