我轉而回顧日光之下，快跑的未必能贏，強壯的未必戰勝，智慧的未必得糧食，聰明的未必得財富，有學問的未必得人喜悅，全在乎各人遇上的時候和機會。

「你們當剛強壯膽，不要因亞述王和跟隨他的大軍恐懼驚慌，因為與我們同在的，比與他們同在的更大。與他們同在的是血肉之臂，但與我們同在的是耶和華－我們的上帝，他必幫助我們，為我們爭戰。」百姓因猶大王希西家的話就得到鼓勵。

掃羅在基比亞的郊外，坐在米磯崙的石榴樹下，跟隨他的百姓約有六百人。

百姓手裏拿着食物和角；其餘的以色列人，基甸都打發他們各自回到自己的帳棚，只留下這三百人。米甸營在他下邊的平原上。

若非他們的磐石賣了他們，若非耶和華交出他們，一人豈能追趕千人，二人焉能使萬人逃跑呢？

「你們要走遍營中，吩咐百姓說：『當預備食物，因為三日之內你們要過這約旦河，進去得耶和華－你們上帝賜給你們為業之地。』」
