大衛到了瑪哈念的時候，亞捫族的拉巴人拿轄的兒子朔比、羅‧底巴人亞米利的兒子瑪吉、基列的羅基琳人巴西萊，帶來寢具、碗盆、瓦器、小麥、大麥、麵粉、炒麥、豆子、紅豆、炒豆、蜂蜜、奶油、綿羊和乳酪送給大衛和跟隨他的人吃，因為他們說：“這些人在曠野一定又飢餓，又疲倦，又口渴了。”

你和你的兒子，以及你的僕人，都要替他耕種田地；你要把所收穫的拿來，供他食用。你主人的孫子米非波設要常常與我同席吃飯。”洗巴有十五個兒子，二十個僕人。

有一個報信的人來見大衛說：“以色列人的心都歸向押沙龍了。”大衛就對所有在耶路撒冷與他在一起的臣僕說：“我們要起來逃走，不然我們就不能逃避押沙龍的面了，要趕快離開，恐怕他迅速趕上我們，使災難臨到我們身上，用刀擊殺全城的人。”王的臣僕對王說：“我主我王決定的一切，僕人都必遵行。”

看哪！我站在門外敲門；如果有人聽見我的聲音就開門的，我要進到他那裡去，我要跟他在一起，他也要跟我在一起吃飯。得勝的，我必定賜他和我一同坐在我的寶座上，正像我得了勝和我父一同坐在他的寶座上一樣。

你的朋友和你父親的朋友，你都不可離棄；在你遭遇患難的日子，不可進你兄弟的家。在附近的鄰舍勝過在遠方的兄弟。

基列人巴西萊也從羅基琳下來，與王一同過約旦河，要在約旦河邊給王送行。巴西萊年紀非常老邁，已經八十歲。王住在瑪哈念的時候，是他供養王的，因為他是一個很富有的人。王對巴西萊說：“你與我一同過河去，在耶路撒冷與我同住，我要供養你。”巴西萊對王說：“我活著的年日還能有多少，可使我與王一同上耶路撒冷呢？我現在已經八十歲了，還能分別美醜嗎？你僕人還能嘗出吃喝的味道嗎？我還能細聽男女歌手的聲音嗎？你僕人為甚麼要負累我主我王呢？你僕人只不過與王一同過約旦河，王為甚麼要這樣賞賜我呢？請讓你僕人回去，好死在我自己的城裡，埋葬在我父母的墳墓旁。看哪，你僕人金罕在這裡，請讓他與我主我王一同過河；你看怎麼好，就怎麼待他吧！”王說：“金罕可以與我一同過河。你看怎麼好，我就怎麼待他。你向我所要求的，我都必為你成全。”於是眾人都渡過約旦河，王也渡過了。王與巴西萊親吻，為他祝福，巴西萊就回自己的地方去了。王過了河，到了吉甲，金罕也與王一同渡河。所有的猶大人和半數以色列人，也都與王一同渡河。

主人來到了，看見僕人警醒，這些僕人就有福了。我實在告訴你們，主人必親自束腰，招待他們吃飯，進前來侍候他們。

我在磨煉之中，常常和我同在的就是你們。父怎樣把王權賜給我，我也照樣賜給你們，叫你們在我的國裡坐在我的席上吃喝，又坐在寶座上審判以色列的十二支派。

因為我祖父全家的人，在我主我王面前都算不得甚麼，都不過是該死的人；你卻使僕人在你席上與你一同吃飯。我還有甚麼權利再向王哀求甚麼呢？”
