There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him:“ What are you doing here, Elijah?”

以利亞聽見了，就用自己的外衣蒙著臉，走出來，站在洞口。忽然有聲音向他說：“以利亞啊，你在這裡幹甚麼？”

就問她：“撒萊的婢女夏甲啊，你從哪裡來？要到哪裡去？”夏甲回答：“我從我的主母撒萊面前逃出來。”

現在，你為甚麼要到埃及去，喝西曷的水呢？你為甚麼要到亞述去，喝幼發拉底河的水呢？

耶和華神呼喚那人，對他說：“你在哪裡？”

可是約拿卻起來，要逃往他施去，躲避耶和華；他下到約帕，找到了一隻要開往他施去的船；他給了錢，就上船（“上船”原文作“下船”），要和他們同往他施去，離開耶和華。但是耶和華在海上忽然颳起大風，於是海中狂風大作，船幾乎要破裂了。

耶和華說：“看哪，我這裡有個地方，你要站在磐石上。我的榮耀經過的時候，我要把你放在磐石隙中，我要用我的手掌遮蓋你，直到我過去了。

但願我在曠野有一個旅客住宿的地方，好使我離開我的同胞，可以離他們而去；因為他們都是行姦淫的，是行詭詐之徒。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為9:1）

原是這世界不配有的人。他們飄流無定，在曠野、山嶺、石洞和地穴棲身。
