太陽出來的時候，上帝安排炎熱的東風，太陽曝曬約拿的頭，使他發昏，他就為自己求死，說：「我死了比活着更好！」

耶和華啊，現在求你取走我的性命吧！因為我死了比活着更好。」

願我出生的那日受詛咒！願我母親生我的那天不蒙福！報信給我父親說「你得了兒子」，使我父親甚歡喜的，願那人受詛咒。願那人像耶和華所傾覆而不憐惜的城鎮；願他早晨聽見哀聲，中午聽見吶喊；因他沒有在我未出胎就把我殺了，以致我母親成為我的墳墓，她卻一直懷着胎。我為何出胎見勞碌愁苦，在羞愧中度盡我的年日呢？

雅各井就在那裏；耶穌因旅途疲乏，坐在井旁。那時約是正午。

他們邊走邊說話的時候，看哪，有火馬和火焰車出現，把二人隔開，以利亞就乘旋風升天去了。

以利亞害怕，就起來逃命，到了猶大的別是巴，把僕人留在那裏。

去追神人，遇見神人坐在橡樹底下，就對他說：「你是不是從猶大來的神人？」他說：「是我。」

皮袋的水用完了，夏甲就把孩子放在一棵小樹下，自己走開約有一箭之遠，相對而坐，說：「我不忍心看見孩子死」。她就坐在對面，放聲大哭。

「遭受患難的人為何有光賜給他呢？心中愁苦的人為何有生命賜給他呢？他們等死，卻不得死；求死，勝於求隱藏的珍寶。他們尋見墳墓，就歡喜快樂，極其高興。

你能勝過挪亞們嗎？它坐落在眾河之間，周圍有水，海作它的城郭，海作它的城牆。

你們看一看那天上的飛鳥，也不種也不收，也不在倉裏存糧，你們的天父尚且養活牠們。你們不比飛鳥貴重得多嗎？

那又怎麼樣呢？我們比他們強嗎？絕不是！因我們已經指證：猶太人和希臘人都在罪惡之下。
