你既然這樣待我，如果我在你面前蒙恩，求你把我殺了，免得我看見自己的苦楚。”

日出的時候，神又安排炎熱的東風。烈日曬在約拿的頭上，以致發昏，他就為自己求死，說：“我死了比活著還好。”

耶和華啊！現在求你取去我的性命吧，因為我死了比活著還好。”

願我生的那一天受咒詛！願我母親生我的那一天不蒙祝福！那向我父親報喜信：“你得了一個男孩”，叫我父親十分高興的，願那人受咒詛！願那人像耶和華所傾覆而不顧惜的城市，願他早晨聽見哀號，午間聽見戰爭的吶喊。因為他沒有使我死於母腹，好使我的母親成了我的墳墓，我永遠留在母腹中。我為甚麼要出母胎，經歷勞苦和憂傷，並且我的年日都消逝在羞辱之中呢？

在那裡有雅各井。耶穌因為旅途疲倦了，就坐在井旁；那時大約正午。

你們要過去甲尼看看，從那裡往哈馬大城去，然後下到非利士的迦特；看你們是否比這些國家勝一籌？他們的領土是否比你們的領土還大？

他們邊走邊談的時候，忽然，有火車火馬把他們二人分開，以利亞就在旋風中被接往天上去了。

以利亞害怕，就起來，逃命去了。他到了猶大的別是巴，就把自己的僕人留在那裡。

去追趕神人，遇見他正坐在橡樹底下，就問他：“你是從猶大來的神人嗎？”他回答：“是的！”

皮袋裡的水用盡了，夏甲就把孩子撇在一棵小樹底下。然後自己走開，在離開約有一箭之遠的地方，相對而坐，說：“我不忍眼看孩子死去。”就相對坐著，放聲大哭。

為甚麼有光明賜給勞碌的人，有生命賜給苦命的人呢？他們想死卻死不了，找死勝於找寶藏；他們找到墳墓就高興，非常歡喜快樂。

你比挪亞們還強嗎？挪亞們位於尼羅河流域，周圍有水環繞；海是她的屏障，水作她的牆垣。

你們看天空的飛鳥：牠們不撒種，不收割，也不收進倉裡，你們的天父尚且養活牠們；難道你們不比牠們更寶貴嗎？

那又怎麼樣呢？我們比他們強嗎？絕不是的。因為我們已經控訴過，無論是猶太人或是希臘人，都在罪惡之下，
