Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there,

「我，是我安慰你們；你是誰，竟怕那必死的人，就是那被棄如草芥的世人；竟忘記了那造你的耶和華，就是展開諸天、奠定大地根基的那一位；竟終日不斷地懼怕，就是懼怕壓迫者預備行毀滅時的怒火！其實那壓迫者的怒火在哪裡呢？

彼得卻在眾人面前否認說：「我不知道你在說什麼。」他出去到門口，另有一個女僕看見他，對那裡的人說：「這個人與拿撒勒人耶穌是一夥的。」彼得又起誓否認說：「我不認識那個人！」過了一會兒，旁邊站著的人過來對彼得說：「你真的也是與他們一夥的，因為連你的口音也把你暴露了。」彼得就開始賭咒並起誓說：「我不認識那個人！」立時，雞就叫了。
