孩子渐渐长大。有一天，他出来到收割的人中找他的父亲。他对他的父亲说：“我的头啊！我的头啊！”他的父亲对仆人说：“把他抱到他母亲那里。”于是仆人把他抱着，送到他母亲那里。孩子坐在他母亲的双膝上，到中午就死了。

亲爱的，有火炼的试验临到你们，不要以为奇怪，好像是遭遇非常的事，

我的弟兄们，你们遭遇各种试炼的时候，都要看为喜乐；因为知道你们的信心经过考验，就产生忍耐。但忍耐要坚持到底（“坚持到底”原文作“有完全的功效”），使你们可以完全，毫无缺乏。

你向它们掩面，它们就惊慌；你收回它们的气息，它们就死亡，归回尘土。

他若对人决心这样作，他若把灵与气收归自己，

竟高抬自己，敌对天上的主，使人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前来，你和你的大臣、妻妾、妃嫔用这些器皿喝酒；你又赞美那些不能看见、不能听见、什么都不能知道，用金、银、铜、铁、木、石所做的神，却没有把荣耀归给那手中有你的气息，和那掌管你一切命途的神。

“我必把那恩慈与恳求的灵倾注在大卫家和耶路撒冷居民的身上。他们必仰望我，就是他们所刺的；他们要为他哀哭，好像丧独生子；他们必为他悲痛，好像丧长子。

这些事以后，神试验亚伯拉罕，对他说：“亚伯拉罕啊！”他回答：“我在这里。”神说：“带着你的儿子，就是你所爱的独生子以撒，到摩利亚地去，在我所要指示你的一座山上，把他献为燔祭。”

是要叫你们的信心经过试验，就比那被火炼过，仍会朽坏的金子更宝贵，可以在耶稣基督显现的时候，得著称赞、荣耀和尊贵。

姊妹二人派人到耶稣那里去，说：“主啊，你所爱的人病了。”耶稣听见，就说：“这病不至于死，而是为了神的荣耀，使神的儿子因此得到荣耀。”

于是，耶稣公开地告诉他们：“拉撒路死了。

活物的生命与全人类的气息，都在耶和华的手中。

能忍受试炼的人，是有福的；因为他经过考验之后，必得着生命的冠冕，这冠冕是主应许给爱他的人的。

身体没有灵魂是死的，照样，信心没有行为也是死的。
