I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes.

亞哈斯登基的時候，是二十歲；他在耶路撒冷作王十六年。他不像他的祖先大衛一樣，行耶和華看為正的事，

廢去掃羅之後，又為他們興起大衛作王，並且為他作證說：‘我找到耶西的兒子大衛，他是合我心意的人，必遵行我的一切旨意。’

因為他們離棄了我，去敬拜西頓人的女神亞斯他錄、摩押人的神基抹和亞捫人的神米勒公，沒有遵行我的道，行我眼中看為正的事，謹守我的律例典章，像他的父親大衛一樣。但是，我不會把整個國家從他的手裡奪去，我必使他終身作人君，是因我所揀選的僕人大衛謹守了我的誡命律例的緣故。我要從他兒子的手中把國奪去，賜給你十個支派。至於所羅門的兒子，我要給他一個支派，好使我的僕人大衛在我所揀選立我名的城耶路撒冷，在我面前常常有燈光。我要揀選你，使你可以照心裡想望的去統治。你必作以色列的王。你若是聽從我吩咐你的一切，遵行我的道，行我看為正的事，謹守我的律例誡命，像我的僕人大衛所行的一樣，我就與你同在，為你建立一個鞏固的朝代，像我為大衛建立的一樣，並且我要把以色列賜給你。

亞希雅拿著自己身上所穿的新衣，把它撕成十二片，對耶羅波安說：“你拿十片去吧！因為耶和華以色列的神這樣說：‘看哪，我必從所羅門的手裡把國奪去，把十個支派賜給你。
