那時，耶羅波安出了耶路撒冷，示羅人亞希雅先知在路上遇見他；亞希雅身上穿着一件新衣。田野中只有他們二人，沒有其他的人。

那時，以利在自己的地方睡覺；他眼目開始昏花，不能看見。

那時以利九十八歲了，兩眼發直，不能看見。

以色列全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會幕設立在那裏。那地已經被他們征服了。

以撒年老，眼睛昏花，不能看見，就叫他大兒子以掃來，對他說：「我兒。」以掃對他說：「我在這裏。」

以色列年紀老邁，眼睛昏花，不能看見。約瑟領他們到他跟前，他就和他們親吻，抱着他們。

看守房屋的發顫，強壯的屈身，推磨的婦女因人少而停工，從窗戶往外看的眼光變為昏暗；

我們一生的年日是七十歲，若是強壯可到八十歲；但其中所矜誇的不過是勞苦愁煩，轉眼即逝，我們便如飛而去。

耶羅波安對他的妻子說：「你起來改裝，使人認不出你是耶羅波安的妻子。你往示羅去，看哪，那裏有先知亞希雅，他曾告訴我說，你必作這百姓的王。

摩西死的時候一百二十歲，眼目沒有昏花，力量沒有衰退。

百姓回到營裏，以色列的長老說：「耶和華今日為何使我們敗在非利士人面前呢？我們要將耶和華的約櫃從示羅抬到我們這裏來，好讓他來到我們中間，救我們脫離敵人的手掌。」於是百姓派人到示羅，從那裏將坐在二基路伯上萬軍之耶和華的約櫃抬來。以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也與上帝的約櫃同來。

你們到我的地方示羅去，就是我先前在那裏立為我名的居所，察看我因這百姓以色列的罪惡向那地方所行的事。現在，因你們行了這一切的事，我一再警戒你們，你們卻不聽從；我呼喚你們，你們也不回應。這是耶和華說的。所以我要向這稱為我名下、你們所倚靠的殿，與我所賜給你們和你們祖先的地這樣行，正如我從前向示羅所行的。
