and followed the counsel of his younger advisers. He told the people,“ My father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!”

No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us,‘ Make brick!’ and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”But Pharaoh said,“ You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say,‘ Let’s go and sacrifice to Yahweh.’Go therefore now, and work; for no straw shall be given to you; yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”

The young men who had grown up with him said to him,“ Tell these people who spoke to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.Now my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”

The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, as did Ahab’s house, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.He also followed their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead, and the Syrians wounded Joram.

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

This will cause much contempt and wrath.“ If it pleases the king, let a royal commandment go from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it cannot be altered, that Vashti may never again come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another who is better than she.When the king’s decree which he shall make is published throughout all his kingdom( for it is great), all the wives will give their husbands honor, both great and small.”This advice pleased the king and the princes, and the king did according to the word of Memucan:

Then the king’s servants who served him said,“ Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them;and let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” The thing pleased the king, and he did so.

The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How do you say to Pharaoh,“ I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?”Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes.

The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.
