They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites,“ You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

The Lord had warned Israel about women from other nations. He had said,“ You must not marry them. If you do, you can be sure they will turn your hearts toward their gods.” But Solomon continued to love them anyway. He wouldn’t give them up.

from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel,“ You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.

The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel,“ You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.

Of the nations[ concerning] which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you:[ for] surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

They came from nations about which the LORD had warned the Israelites,“ You must not establish friendly relations with them! If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them.

of the nations concerning which Yahweh said to the children of Israel,“ You shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon joined to these in love.

and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods.

Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son.For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.

Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations— these that remain among you— and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you,know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab.They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.

You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

Judah has dealt treacherously, And an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, For Judah has profaned The LORD’s holy institution which He loves: He has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:“ I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Do not be deceived:“ Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, spoke up and said to Ezra,“ We have trespassed against our God, and have taken pagan wives from the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope in Israel in spite of this.Now therefore, let us make a covenant with our God to put away all these wives and those who have been born to them, according to the advice of my master and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.”Then Ezra arose, and made the leaders of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel swear an oath that they would do according to this word. So they swore an oath.Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib; and when he came there, he ate no bread and drank no water, for he mourned because of the guilt of those from the captivity.And they issued a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the descendants of the captivity, that they must gather at Jerusalem,and that whoever would not come within three days, according to the instructions of the leaders and elders, all his property would be confiscated, and he himself would be separated from the assembly of those from the captivity.So all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered at Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month; and all the people sat in the open square of the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of heavy rain.Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them,“ You have transgressed and have taken pagan wives, adding to the guilt of Israel.Now therefore, make confession to the Lord God of your fathers, and do His will; separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the pagan wives.”Then all the assembly answered and said with a loud voice,“ Yes! As you have said, so we must do.But there are many people; it is the season for heavy rain, and we are not able to stand outside. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for there are many of us who have transgressed in this matter.Please, let the leaders of our entire assembly stand; and let all those in our cities who have taken pagan wives come at appointed times, together with the elders and judges of their cities, until the fierce wrath of our God is turned away from us in this matter.”Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah opposed this, and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite gave them support.Then the descendants of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of the fathers’ households, were set apart by the fathers’ households, each of them by name; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.By the first day of the first month they finished questioning all the men who had taken pagan wives.

Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her,“ Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”So Delilah said to Samson,“ Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you.”And Samson said to her,“ If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, and she bound him with them.Now men were lying in wait, staying with her in the room. And she said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he broke the bowstrings as a strand of yarn breaks when it touches fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.Then Delilah said to Samson,“ Look, you have mocked me and told me lies. Now, please tell me what you may be bound with.”So he said to her,“ If they bind me securely with new ropes that have never been used, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”Therefore Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them, and said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And men were lying in wait, staying in the room. But he broke them off his arms like a thread.Delilah said to Samson,“ Until now you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me what you may be bound with.” And he said to her,“ If you weave the seven locks of my head into the web of the loom”—So she wove it tightly with the batten of the loom, and said to him,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep, and pulled out the batten and the web from the loom.Then she said to him,“ How can you say,‘ I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.”And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death,that he told her all his heart, and said to her,“ No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying,“ Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.” So the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand.Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him.And she said,“ The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said,“ I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.

And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods.So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs.

Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?

Now therefore, do not give your daughters as wives for their sons, nor take their daughters to your sons; and never seek their peace or prosperity, that you may be strong and eat the good of the land, and leave it as an inheritance to your children forever.’

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat,“ Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you.
