雖然、吾所書者、亦可謂之新誡命、主所體認、亦爾等所體認者也。蓋暗昧寖消、而真光已著矣。

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

是有真光、普照凡入世之人、

我以新誡予爾、令爾相愛、如我愛爾、爾亦相愛也、

斯世之靈、盲其中不信者之心、使基督有榮之福音、光不之照、夫基督上帝像也、我儕所宣非己、乃基督耶穌為主、己則緣耶穌為爾僕耳、蓋命光由暗而照之上帝、已照我心、俾知上帝榮之光、即顯於耶穌基督之面者也、○

惟爾寅畏我名者、義日將為爾出、其翼施醫、爾將出而踴躍、如牢中之犢、

愛上帝者亦宜愛兄弟、此我儕所受之誡也、

愛友乎、上帝既如是愛我儕、則我亦當相愛、

我儕因愛兄弟、知已出死入生、不愛者仍居於死、凡惡兄弟、乃殺人者也、爾知殺人者、永生不寓其衷、主為我舍生、我於此而知愛、亦宜為兄弟舍生也、

冬已過、雨已止、徧地花開、治園之時已屆、鳩聲聞於我境、

爾宜相愛、如我愛爾、此我誡也、人為友捐生、愛莫大於此者、爾若行我所命、即我友也、今而後我不謂爾為僕、蓋僕不知其主所行、乃謂爾為友、以所聞於父者、悉已示爾、

處暗之民、得見大光、居陰翳之域者、有光照之、

耶穌曰、光在爾中、暫耳、有光則宜行、免暗及爾、行於暗者、不知所往矣、

上帝自死起之、予之榮、致爾信爾望皆在上帝、
