我復將新誡致書以傳爾、在主乃真、在爾亦真、蓋晦暗方過、而真光已照也、

雖然、吾所書者、亦可謂之新誡命、主所體認、亦爾等所體認者也。蓋暗昧寖消、而真光已著矣。

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

那照亮世人的真光来到了世上。

我赐给你们一条新命令——你们要彼此相爱。我怎样爱你们，你们也要怎样彼此相爱。

那些不信的人是被这世界的神弄瞎了心眼，以致看不见基督荣耀的福音之光。基督是上帝的本像。我们并非传扬自己，而是传扬耶稣基督是主，并且为耶稣的缘故而做你们的奴仆。因为那吩咐光从黑暗中照射出来的上帝光照了我们的心，为要让我们认识上帝在耶稣基督的面容上所彰显的荣耀。

但必有公义的太阳为你们这些敬畏我名的人升起，它的光芒有医治的能力。你们必像栏中出来的牛犊一样欢欣跳跃。

爱上帝的人也应该爱弟兄姊妹，这是上帝给我们的命令。

亲爱的弟兄姊妹，上帝既然这样爱我们，我们也应该彼此相爱。

我们因爱弟兄姊妹，便知道自己已经出死入生了。不爱弟兄姊妹的，仍然陷在死亡中。恨弟兄姊妹的就是杀人的，你们知道杀人的没有永生。主耶稣为我们舍命，我们由此便知道什么是爱，我们也应当为弟兄姊妹舍命。

你看！冬天过去了，雨水止住了。大地百花盛开，百鸟争鸣的季节已经来临，田野也传来斑鸠的叫声。

你们要彼此相爱，像我爱你们一样，这就是我的命令。为朋友舍命可以说是人间最伟大的爱了。你们如果照我的吩咐去做，就是我的朋友。我不再称你们为奴仆，因为奴仆不知道主人的事。我称你们为朋友，因为我把从父那里听见的一切都告诉了你们。

走在黑暗中的人必看见大光，活在死亡阴影下的人必被光照亮。

耶稣对他们说：“光在你们中间照耀的时候不多了，你们要趁着有光的时候走路，免得黑暗来临后，走在黑暗里的人不知道要往哪里去。

你们借着基督信了使祂从死里复活、赐祂荣耀的上帝，所以，你们的信心和盼望都在于上帝。
