耶穌回答：「最重要的是：『以色列啊，你當聽好！主——我們的神，是獨一的主。你要以全心、全靈、全意、全力愛主——你的神。』「其次就是『要愛鄰如己。』沒有別的誡命比這兩條更大的了。」那經文士就對耶穌說：「不錯，老師，你真的講了：神只有一位，除他以外沒有別的神。以全心、全智、全力來愛神，並且要愛鄰如己，這是比所有的燔祭和各種祭祀都重要的。」耶穌見他回答得有智慧，就對他說：「你離神的國不遠了。」於是，沒有人敢再質問耶穌了。

耶穌對他說：「『你要以全心、全靈、全意愛主——你的神』，這是最大的，也是最重要的誡命。其次的也和它類似，『要愛鄰如己。』全部律法和先知書都是以這兩條誡命為依據的。」

弟兄們，你們蒙召是為了得自由，只是不可用這自由給肉體一個機會，而是要藉著愛彼此服事，因為全部律法都在「要愛鄰如己」這一句話裡得以滿足了。

不過，你們如果照著經上那條至尊的律法「要愛鄰如己」完全實行，你們就做得很好了。但如果你們偏待人，就是犯罪，並被律法指證是違犯律法的人。因為那遵守整個律法的人，只在一條上跌倒，就成了干犯所有律法的了。原來那位說過「不可通姦」的，也說過「不可殺人」。你即使不通姦，卻殺人，你還是成了違犯律法的人。既然你們將要照著那使人得自由的律法受審判，就應當照此說話、行事。

他們就拉住保羅，帶他到亞略巴古，問他：「你所講論的這新教導，我們可以知道嗎？
