If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.

If I preach because I want to, I get a reward. If I preach because I have to, I’m only doing my duty.

For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.

If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission.

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a commission nonetheless.

On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.

If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.

The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.

See, I have told you ahead of time.

On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry.He prayed to the Lord,“ Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”
