But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.

我在你们那里经济拮据的时候，没有拖累过你们任何人，因为马其顿来的弟兄姊妹补足了我的缺乏。我没有在任何方面成为你们的负担，将来也不会成为你们的负担。我凭我心中基督的真理说，亚该亚地区无人会阻止我这样夸口。为什么呢？难道我不爱你们吗？上帝知道我爱你们！我现在所做的，将来还会继续做下去，为了要断绝那些投机分子的机会，使他们无法吹嘘自己的职分与我们一样。

如果别人有权要求你们供应他们，我们岂不更有权吗？可是我们从来没有用过这权利，反而凡事忍耐，免得妨碍了基督的福音。

也没有白吃谁的饭，而是昼夜辛勤工作，免得成为你们任何人的负担。

他们夫妇跟保罗是同行，都以制造帐篷为业，保罗就留下来和他们同住，一起做工。

弟兄姊妹，你们一定记得我们的劳苦和艰难。我们一面向你们传福音，一面昼夜辛勤工作，免得成为你们任何人的负担。

你们都知道，我亲手做工养活自己和同工。

还要亲手劳作。我们被人咒骂，就为对方祝福；受人迫害，就逆来顺受；

但不论谁使这样一个小信徒失足犯罪，他的下场比把大磨石拴在他脖子上沉到深海里还要惨。

你们什么地方不及其他教会呢？我唯一“亏待”你们的地方就是没有成为你们的负担！希望各位原谅我的不公道！如今我打算第三次到你们那里。我不会拖累你们的，因为我想得到的是你们，而不是你们的财物。儿女不必为父母积财，父母理当为儿女积财。为了你们的灵魂，我甘愿付出，包括自己的生命。难道我越爱你们，就越得不到你们的爱吗？算了！我没有拖累过你们，但居然有人说我狡猾，用诡计骗你们。请问，在我派到你们那里的人当中，我借着谁占过你们的便宜呢？我恳求提多去你们那里，并派弟兄与他同去。难道提多占过你们的便宜吗？我们行事为人岂不是心灵相通，步调一致吗？

扫罗却在摧毁教会，他挨家挨户搜寻，把男女信徒抓进监里。

不过，只要能跑完我当跑的路程，完成主耶稣交托给我的使命——为上帝充满恩典的福音做见证，就是牺牲性命，我也在所不惜。

我殷切地期待和盼望：我不会感到任何羞愧，而是放胆无惧，不管是生是死，都要一如既往地使基督在我身上得到尊崇。因为对我来说，活着是为了基督，死了也有益处。如果活在世上，我可以做工，多结果子。我真不知道该怎么选择！我处在两难之间。我情愿离开世界，与基督在一起，那实在是再好不过了。
