关于未婚的，我没有主的命令，但我既然蒙了主的怜悯，成为可信靠的人，就把我的意见提出来。为了目前的困难，我认为人最好能保持现状。

主把权柄赐给我们，是为了要造就你们，不是要破坏你们，就算我为这权柄夸口过分了一点，也不会觉得惭愧。不要以为我写信是用来吓你们。因为有人说：“他的信又严厉又强硬，他本人却其貌不扬，言语粗俗。”

我现在要对未婚的人和寡妇说，他们若保持像我这样就好了；

难道神的道是从你们出来的吗？是单单临到你们的吗？如果有人自以为是先知或是属灵的，他就应该知道我写给你们的是主的命令；

我成了愚妄的人，是你们逼成的。其实你们应该称赞我，因为我虽然算不得什么，却没有一点比不上那些“超等使徒”。

并且要以我们的主恒久忍耐为给人得救的机会，就如我们所亲爱的弟兄保罗，按照所赐给他的智慧，写给你们的一样；他在一切书信上，都讲论这些事。在这些书信中，有些难明白的地方，那不学无术和不稳定的人加以曲解，好像曲解别的经书一样，就自取灭亡。

我不是自由的吗？我不是使徒吗？我不是见过我们的主耶稣吗？你们不是我在主里面的工作吗？对别人来说，我或许不是使徒，但对你们来说，我总是使徒，因为你们就是我在主里作使徒的印记。对那些盘问我的人，这就是我的答辩。

关于你们信上所提的事:“男人不亲近女人倒好”。

所以那弃绝这命令的，不是弃绝人，而是弃绝把他自己的圣灵赐给你们的那位神。

我说这话，是为了你们自己的益处；我不是要限制你们，而是要你们作合宜的事，一心一意地对主忠诚。
