To the married I give this command( not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.

I give a command to those who are married. It is a direct command from the Lord, not from me. A wife must not leave her husband.

To the married I give this charge( not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband

But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord. A wife must not leave her husband.

第吾語爾、妻非犯姦而出之者、是陷之於姦也；娶所出之妻、亦犯姦也；

凡出妻而另娶者、姦也。娶人所出之妻者、亦姦也。

有法利賽人來試之曰：『人可任憑何故而出其妻乎？』耶穌對曰：『爾未讀經耶？經言「造化主之創人也、肇造一男一女」且謂「因此人將離其父母、好合其妻、二人成為一體。」是已不復為二、乃為一體。夫天主所合、人焉得而離之。法利賽人曰：『然則摩西何為命與休書而出之乎？』對曰：『摩西以汝心如鐵石、姑容出妻、非自始已然。吾語爾、凡非因不貞之故、出其妻而別娶者、姦也；娶已出之妻者、亦姦也。』

耶穌曰：『出妻而他娶、是背妻而姦也。妻若離夫而別嫁、亦姦也。』

倘若不信教理之一造欲離則聽之可也。在此情形之下、信男信女實不受拘束蓋天主詔吾人處世當以和平為本、

至於其他、予自言焉非主言也：如兄弟中有不信教理之妻、而其妻願意與之同居、則勿離之；

然依吾之見、若能守寡、則更為有福；竊思此亦天主聖神之意也。

然吾作此論、乃係體諒人情、非命令也。

對於童貞者、吾未承主諭、惟吾既飽受主恩、自當忠實相告。
