我克制己身，使它完全顺服，免得我传福音给别人，自己反而被淘汰了。

我凭着主耶稣确知深信，凡物本来没有不洁净的，除非人以为不洁净的，在他就不洁净了。你若因食物使弟兄忧愁，就不是按着爱心行事。基督已经为他死，你不可因你的食物使他败坏。所以，不可让你们的善被人毁谤。因为上帝的国不在乎饮食，而在乎公义、和平及圣灵中的喜乐。凡这样服侍基督的，就为上帝所喜悦，又为人所赞许。所以，我们务要追求和平与彼此造就的事。不可因食物毁坏上帝的工作。一切都是洁净的，但有人因食物使人跌倒，这在他就是恶了。无论是吃肉是喝酒，是什么别的事，使弟兄跌倒，一概不做，才是善的。你有信心，就要在上帝面前持守。人能在自己以为可行的事上不自责就有福了。若有人疑惑而吃的，就被定罪，因为他吃不是出于信心。凡不出于信心的都是罪。

可是，不是人人都有这知识。有人到现在因拜惯了偶像，仍以为所吃的是祭过偶像的食物；既然他们的良心软弱，也就污秽了。其实，食物不能使我们更接近上帝，因为我们不吃也无损，吃也无益。可是，你们要谨慎，免得你们这自由竟成了软弱人的绊脚石。若有人见你这有知识的在偶像的庙里坐席，而这人的良心是软弱的，他岂不放胆去吃那祭过偶像的食物吗？因此，基督为他死的那软弱弟兄，也就因你的知识沉沦了。你们这样得罪弟兄，伤了他们软弱的良心，就是得罪基督。所以，食物若使我的弟兄跌倒，我就永远不吃肉，免得使我的弟兄跌倒了。

这并不是因我们没有权柄，而是要给你们作榜样，好让你们效法我们。

要谨慎，免得有人失去了上帝的恩典；免得有毒根生出来扰乱你们，因而使许多人沾染污秽，免得有人淫乱，或不敬虔如以扫，他因一点点食物把自己长子的名分卖了。

关于吃祭过偶像的食物，我们知道“偶像在世上算不得什么”；也知道“上帝只有一位，没有别的”。

我们原知道律法是属灵的，我却是属肉体的，是已经卖给罪了。

这样的人是你们爱筵上的污点；他们无所惧怕地同你们宴乐，仿佛牧人只顾喂饱自己。他们是无雨的浮云，被风飘荡；是秋天没有果子的树，死而又死，连根被拔出来；

假如别人在你们身上享有这权利，何况我们呢？然而，我们并没有用过这权利，倒是凡事忍受，免得基督的福音受到阻碍。
