For the law brings wrath, because where there is no law there is no transgression either.

Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For apart from the law, sin is dead.And I was once alive apart from the law, but with the coming of the commandment sin became aliveand I died. So I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life brought death!For sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it I died.So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Absolutely not! But sin, so that it would be shown to be sin, produced death in me through what is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.

For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.”Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous one will live by faith.But the law is not based on faith, but the one who does the works of the law will live by them.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us( because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)

Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more,

For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned–for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law.

Thus I told you that you will die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

But to Adam he said,“ Because you obeyed your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you,‘ You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground thanks to you; in painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.It will produce thorns and thistles for you, but you will eat the grain of the field.By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”

Then Jesus said to them again,“ I am going away, and you will look for me but will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.”

The wicked will be thrown down in his trouble, but the righteous have refuge even in the threat of death.

For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ!

But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many!

You make mankind return to the dust, and say,“ Return, O people!”Yes, in your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday that quickly passes, or like one of the divisions of the nighttime.You bring their lives to an end and they“ fall asleep.” In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up;in the morning it glistens and sprouts up; at evening time it withers and dries up.Yes, we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath.You are aware of our sins; you even know about our hidden sins.Yes, throughout all our days we experience your raging fury; the years of our lives pass quickly, like a sigh.The days of our lives add up to seventy years, or eighty, if one is especially strong. But even one’s best years are marred by trouble and oppression. Yes, they pass quickly and we fly away.Who can really fathom the intensity of your anger? Your raging fury causes people to fear you.
