Far from it! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by bringing about my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.

For all who are of works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written:“ Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things written in the book of the Law, to do them.”Now, that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for,“ the righteous one will live by faith.”However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary,“ The person who performs them will live by them.”Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us— for it is written:“ Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”—

The Law came in so that the offense would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,

For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all mankind, because all sinned—for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not counted against anyone when there is no law.

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.”

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

Then to Adam He said,“ Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying,‘ You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; With hard labor you shall eat from it All the days of your life.Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; Yet you shall eat the plants of the field;By the sweat of your face You shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

Then He said again to them,“ I am going away, and you will look for Me, and will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.”

The wicked is thrust down by his own wrongdoing, But the righteous has a refuge when he dies.

For if by the offense of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

But the gracious gift is not like the offense. For if by the offense of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many.

You turn mortals back into dust And say,“ Return, you sons of mankind.”For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or like a watch in the night.You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass that sprouts anew.In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; Toward evening it wilts and withers away.For we have been consumed by Your anger, And we have been terrified by Your wrath.You have placed our guilty deeds before You, Our hidden sins in the light of Your presence.For all our days have dwindled away in Your fury; We have finished our years like a sigh.As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is only trouble and tragedy; For it quickly passes, and we disappear.Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?

And just as it is destined for people to die once, and after this comes judgment,
