Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”

Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him.When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.

Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man.He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.

Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them,“ Why do you seek the living among the dead?He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,saying,‘ The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’”

to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”

because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

For He taught His disciples and said to them,“ The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”

Jesus answered and said to them,“ Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”Then the Jews said,“ It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”But He was speaking of the temple of His body.Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

saying,“ Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said,‘ After three days I will rise.’Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people,‘ He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.”

Then He said to them,“ Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.But the angel answered and said to the women,“ Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time.So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them,“ They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.
