Now when it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea came, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.

And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man( he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God—this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain.

and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them,“ Why are you seeking the living One among the dead?He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.”

To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of things regarding the kingdom of God.

saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

because He has set a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all people by raising Him from the dead.”

For He was teaching His disciples and telling them,“ The Son of Man is to be handed over to men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

Jesus answered them,“ Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”The Jews then said,“ It took forty six years to build this temple, and yet You will raise it up in three days?”But He was speaking about the temple of His body.So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.

For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon,and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.”

saying,“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.And they will mock Him and spit on Him, and flog Him and kill Him; and three days later He will rise from the dead.”

and they said,“ Sir, we remember that when that deceiver was still alive, He said,‘ After three days I am rising.’Therefore, give orders for the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him, and say to the people,‘ He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

From that time Jesus began to point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.

And very early on the first day of the week, they* came to the tomb when the sun had risen.They were saying to one another,“ Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb for us?”And looking up, they* noticed that the stone had been rolled away; for it was extremely large.And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.But he* said to them,“ Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; see, here is the place where they laid Him.But go, tell His disciples and Peter,‘ He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’ ”

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb.And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it.And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.The guards shook from fear of him and became like dead men.And the angel said to the women,“ Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.

Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself also waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.Now Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.And after learning this from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb which had been cut out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

Now after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, requested of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred litras weight.So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden was a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene* came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and* saw the stone already removed from the tomb.So she* ran and* came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and* said to them,“ They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.”So Peter and the other disciple left, and they were going to the tomb.The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first;and he stooped to look in, and* saw the linen wrappings lying there; however he did not go in.So Simon Peter also* came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he* looked at the linen wrappings lying there,and the face cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself.So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb also entered then, and he saw and believed.For they did not yet understand the Scripture, that He must rise from the dead.
