不然，那些为死人受洗的，将来怎样呢？若死人总不复活，因何为他们受洗呢？

如果不是這樣，那些替死人受洗的，將怎麼辦呢？如果死人根本不會復活，人們為什麼還替死人受洗呢？

不然、為死者受洗何為耶、若死者概不見起、則為之受洗何故也、

死者不復生、則人緣復生而受洗者何為、其緣復生而受洗者何益、

若死者不復活、則人為死者受洗禮、行此何益、彼為死者受洗禮、何故也、

不然、為亡者領洗、亦胡為乎？死者果無復活、則人之為其領洗也、亦何為乎？

Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?

Or else what will they do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead aren’t raised at all, why then are they baptized for the dead?
