Suppose the foot says,“ I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.

设若脚说：“我不是手，所以不属乎身子，”它不能因此就不属乎身子。

假如脚说：“我不是手，所以不属于身体”，它不能因此就不属于身体。

假如脚说：“我不是手，所以不属于身体”，它不能因此就不属于身体。

如果脚说：“我不是手，所以我不属于身体。”难道脚就因此不属于身体吗？

假如脚说：“我不是手，所以我不属于身体。”它不能因此就不属于身体。

如果脚说：“因为我不是手，我就不属于身体”，难道它因此就不属于身体吗？

設若腳說：「我不是手，所以不屬乎身子，」它不能因此就不屬乎身子。

假如腳說：「我不是手，所以不屬於身體」，它不能因此就不屬於身體。

假如腳說：「我不是手，所以不屬於身體」，它不能因此就不屬於身體。

如果腳說：「我不是手，所以我不屬於身體。」難道腳就因此不屬於身體嗎？

假如腳說：“我不是手，所以我不屬於身體。”它不能因此就不屬於身體。

設若腳說：『我既不是手，就不屬於身體』，它不能因此就不屬於身體啊。

如果腳說：「因為我不是手，我就不屬於身體」，難道它因此就不屬於身體嗎？

倘足云、吾非手、不屬身、非果不屬身也、

譬之足、以謂吾非手不屬身、豈果不屬身乎、

設足云、我非手、故不屬於身、豈果不屬於身乎、

『吾既非手、故不屬身、』其果不屬身耶？

Now if the foot should say,“ Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.

If the foot should say,“ Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.

If the foot says,“ I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body.

If the foot should say,“ Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,” it is not for that reason any less a part of the body.

If the foot says,“ Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any less a part of the body.

If the foot should say,“ Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?

If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; it is not therefore not of the body.

If the foot should say,“ Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body.

If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

If the foot says,“ Since I am not a hand, I am not part of the body,” it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.

If the foot would say,“ Because I’m not the hand, I’m not part of the body,” it is not therefore not part of the body.

One day the trees went out to anoint a king for themselves. They said to an olive tree,‘ Be our king.’“ But the olive tree answered,‘ Should I give up my olive oil? It’s used to honor gods and people alike. Should I give that up just to rule over the trees?’“ Next, the trees said to a fig tree,‘ Come and be our king.’“ But the fig tree replied,‘ Should I give up my fruit? It’s so good and sweet. Should I give that up just to rule over the trees?’“ Then the trees said to a vine,‘ Come and be our king.’“ But the vine answered,‘ Should I give up my wine? It cheers up gods and people alike. Should I give that up just to rule over the trees?’“ Finally, all the trees spoke to a bush that had thorns. They said,‘ Come and be our king.’“ The bush asked the trees,‘ Do you really want to anoint me as king over you? If you do, come and rest in my shade. But if you don’t, I will destroy you! Fire will come out of me and burn up the cedar trees of Lebanon!’

But Jehoash, the king of Israel, answered Amaziah, the king of Judah. Jehoash said,“ A thorn bush in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar tree there. The thorn bush said,‘ Give your daughter to be married to my son.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon came along. It crushed the thorn bush by walking on it.
