如果你吃的東西令弟兄姊妹不安，你就不是憑愛心行事。你不可因為一點食物而損害基督捨命救贖的人。所以，不要讓你們認為好的事被別人詬病。因為上帝的國不是關乎吃什麼喝什麼，而是關乎公義、平安和聖靈所賜的喜樂。以這樣的態度事奉基督的人才會得到上帝的喜悅和大家的稱讚。所以，我們要努力追求和睦，彼此造就。不可因食物的問題而破壞上帝的工作。所有的食物固然都是潔淨的，但人若因所吃的食物絆倒別人，就有罪了。無論是吃肉、喝酒還是做任何別的事，如果會絆倒別人，就應該一概不做。

但你們要小心，不要讓你們的自由絆倒那些信心軟弱的人。如果有人看見你這明白以上道理的人竟然坐在偶像的廟中吃喝，他雖然良心不安，豈不還是會放膽吃獻給偶像的祭物嗎？這樣，你的知識反而令那軟弱的人，就是基督捨命救回的弟兄沉淪。你們這樣得罪弟兄，傷了他脆弱的良心，就是得罪基督。所以，如果我吃某些食物會令我的弟兄在信仰上跌倒，我就情願永遠不吃，免得令他們跌倒。
