Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom.

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”But He answered them,“ An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Then also, some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers argued with him. Some said,“ What is this pseudo-intellectual trying to say?” Others replied,“ He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities”— because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the Resurrection.They took him and brought him to the Areopagus, and said,“ May we learn about this new teaching you’re speaking of?For what you say sounds strange to us, and we want to know what these ideas mean.”Now all the Athenians and the foreigners residing there spent their time on nothing else but telling or hearing something new.

The Pharisees and Sadducees approached, and as a test, asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.He answered them:“ When evening comes you say,‘ It will be good weather because the sky is red.’And in the morning,‘ Today will be stormy because the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can’t read the signs of the times.An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then He left them and went away.

And others, as a test, were demanding of Him a sign from heaven.

The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, demanding of Him a sign from heaven to test Him.

So the Jews replied to Him,“ What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things?”

If I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you.

Then the woman left her water jar, went into town, and told the men,
