大衛聽見拿八死了，就說：「耶和華是應當稱頌的，因為我從拿八手中受了羞辱，他為我伸冤，又阻止他的僕人行惡；耶和華使拿八的惡歸到他自己頭上。」於是大衛派人去向亞比該說，要娶她為妻。大衛的僕人來到迦密，到亞比該那裏，對她說：「大衛派我們到你這裏，要娶你作他的妻子。」亞比該起來叩拜，俯伏在地，說：「看哪，你的使女情願作婢女，為我主的僕人洗腳。」亞比該立刻起身，騎上驢，五個女僕跟着她走。她跟從大衛的使者去，就作了大衛的妻子。大衛先前娶了耶斯列人亞希暖，她們二人都作了他的妻子。

後來發生了一件事。大衛的兒子押沙龍有一個美貌的妹妹，名叫她瑪。大衛的兒子暗嫩愛上了她。

大衛和他的兩個妻子，就是耶斯列人亞希暖和作過拿八妻子的迦密人亞比該，以及他的人，連同各人的眷屬，都住在迦特的亞吉那裏。

押沙龍的僕人就照押沙龍所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王所有的兒子都起來，各人騎上騾子逃跑了。
