Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. For he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father’s house, and among my father’s sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.

“ Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from my whole family to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as leader, and from the tribe of Judah he chose my family, and from my father’s sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

“ But the Lord chose me. He is the God of Israel. He chose me from my whole family to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah to lead the tribes. From the tribe of Judah he chose my family. From my father’s sons he chose me. He was pleased to make me king over the whole nation of Israel.

“ Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, has chosen me from among all my father’s family to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen the tribe of Judah to rule, and from among the families of Judah he chose my father’s family. And from among my father’s sons the Lord was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

“ Yet the LORD God of Israel chose me out of all my father’s family to be king over Israel forever. For he chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah, my father’s family, and from my father’s sons, he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

Yet, the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from all the household of my father to be king over Israel forever. For He has chosen Judah to be a leader; and in the house of Judah, my father’s house, and among the sons of my father He took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.

However the Lord God of Israel chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen Judah to be the ruler. And of the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel.

Howbeit Jehovah, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel;

Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah[ to be] the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make[ me] king over all Israel:

The LORD God of Israel chose me out of my father’s entire family to become king over Israel and have a permanent dynasty. Indeed, he chose Judah as leader, and my father’s family within Judah, and then he picked me out from among my father’s sons and made me king over all Israel.

However Yahweh, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.

The Lord said to Samuel,“ How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

though Judah became strong among his brothers and a chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph),

When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought,“ Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.”But the Lord said to Samuel,“ Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said,“ Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said,“ Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”And Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse,“ The Lord has not chosen these.”Then Samuel said to Jesse,“ Are all your sons here?” And he said,“ There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse,“ Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.”And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said,“ Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you, for it is you, O Lord, who have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”

Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel.And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth.And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly,from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house.When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men,but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’”

“ Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down before you.Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

And now, O Lord, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as you have spoken,

Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying,“ Is not David hiding himself on the hill of Hachilah, which is on the east of Jeshimon?”

but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loves.He built his sanctuary like the high heavens, like the earth, which he has founded forever.He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds;from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance.With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.

He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.

who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said:“ I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him,so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him.The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him.I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.He shall cry to me,‘ You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter.

For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
