David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand extended over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell facedown.

亞哈聽見這些話，就撕裂自己的衣服，披上麻布，禁食，睡在麻布上，並且神色頹喪地行走。

摩西和亞倫就俯伏在以色列全體會眾面前。

摩西和亞倫就俯伏在地，說：“神啊，萬人之靈的神啊，一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？”

在以色列營前行走的神的使者，轉到他們後面去；雲柱也從他們前面轉過去，立在他們後面。雲柱來到埃及營和以色列營中間；雲柱一邊是黑暗的，一邊卻光照著黑夜。這樣整夜彼此都不能接近。

希西家王聽見了，就把自己的衣服撕裂，披上麻布，來到耶和華的殿。

以利沙禱告，說：“耶和華啊！請你打開他的眼睛，使他能看見。”於是耶和華打開了僕人的眼睛，他就看見；看哪！那山上布滿了火馬火車，圍繞著以利沙。

至於我，他們有病的時候，我就穿上麻衣，禁食刻苦己心；我心裡也不住地禱告（“我心裡也不住地禱告”原文作“我的禱告都回到自己的懷中”）。我往來奔走，看他們像自己的朋友兄弟；我哀痛屈身，如同哀悼母親。

約書亞走近耶利哥的時候，抬頭觀看，看見一個人站在他對面，手裡拿著拔出來的刀。約書亞走到他那裡，對他說：“你是我們的人，還是我們的仇敵呢？”那人回答：“不是的；我現在來是作耶和華軍隊的元帥。”約書亞就臉伏在地，向他下拜，對他說：“我主有甚麼事要吩咐僕人呢？”

這事傳到尼尼微王那裡，他就起來，離開寶座，脫去王袍，披上麻衣，坐在爐灰中。他又傳諭全尼尼微，說：“王和大臣有令：‘人、畜、牛、羊，都不准嘗甚麼，不准吃，也不准喝。不論人畜，都要披上麻衣；各人要懇切呼求神，悔改，離開惡行，摒棄手中的強暴。

於是把亞當驅逐出去，又派基路伯在伊甸園的東邊，拿著旋轉發火燄的劍，把守到生命樹去的路。

那時，耶和華開了巴蘭的眼睛，他就看見耶和華的使者站在路上，手裡拿著拔出來的刀，巴蘭就低頭俯伏在地。
