I have never lived in a house, from the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until this very day. My home has always been a tent, moving from one place to another in a Tabernacle.

I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

For I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from dwelling to dwelling.

“ Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year.Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.

‘ From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have never chosen a city among any of the tribes of Israel as the place where a Temple should be built to honor my name. But I have chosen David to be king over my people Israel.’”

But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place?My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

“ But will God really live on earth among people? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!

They brought the Ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord.

The priests and Levites brought up the Ark of the Lord along with the special tent and all the sacred items that had been in it.

“ Our ancestors carried the Tabernacle with them through the wilderness. It was constructed according to the plan God had shown to Moses.Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.“ David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob.But it was Solomon who actually built it.However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,‘ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that?’ asks the Lord.‘ Could you build me such a resting place?Didn’t my hands make both heaven and earth?’

“ But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!
