巴兰对巴勒说：“你要在这里为我筑七座坛，又要在这里为我预备七头公牛、七只公羊。”巴勒照巴兰的话做了。巴勒和巴兰在每座坛上献一头公牛、一只公羊。巴兰对巴勒说：“你站在你的燔祭旁边，我要往前去，或许耶和华会向我显现。他指示我什么事，我必告诉你。”于是巴兰上到一个光秃的高地。上帝向巴兰显现。巴兰对他说：“我预备了七座坛，在每座坛上献了一头公牛、一只公羊。”

并不是我们凭自己配做什么事，我们之所以配做是出于上帝；

“我算什么，我的百姓算什么，竟然能够如此乐意奉献？因为万物都从你而来，我们把从你的手得来的献给你。

“第七日要献七头公牛、两只公绵羊、十四只一岁的小公羊，都是没有残疾的，

对灭亡的人，这是死而又死的气味；对得救的人，这是生而又生的气味。这些事谁能当得起呢？

然而，我蒙上帝的帮助，直到今日还站立得稳，向尊贵的和卑微的作见证。我所讲的，并不外乎众先知和摩西所说将来必成的事，

节期的七天内，每天他要预备无残疾的七头公牛、七只公绵羊，给耶和华为燔祭；每天又要预备一只公山羊为赎罪祭。

撒母耳拿一块石头立在米斯巴和善的中间，给石头起名叫以便‧以谢，说：“到如今耶和华都帮助我们。”

我要带着燔祭进你的殿，向你还我的愿，就是在急难时我嘴唇所发的、口中所许的。我要将肥牛的燔祭和公羊的香祭献给你，又要把公牛和公山羊献上。（细拉）

抬耶和华约柜的人走了六步，大卫就献牛与肥畜为祭。
