非利士人聽見人膏立了大衛做王來管理以色列，非利士眾人就上來尋索大衛；大衛聽見了，就下營寨去。非利士人來了，在利乏音山谷中四散侵掠。大衛求問永恆主說：『我可以上去攻打非利士人麼？你將他們交在我手裏麼？』永恆主對大衛說：『你可以上去；我一定將非利士人交在你手裏。』大衛來到巴力毘拉心；就在那裏擊敗了非利士人，說：『永恆主在我面前沖破了我的仇敵，如同水沖破了堤岸一般。因此他給那地方起名叫巴力毘拉心。非利士人將他們的偶像撇在那裏，大衛和跟隨的人給拿走了。非利士人又再上來，在利乏音山谷四散侵掠。大衛求問永恆主，永恆主說：『你不要一直上去；要繞到他們後頭，從桑樹林對面去攻打他們。你一聽見桑樹梢上有腳步聲，就要猛銳行動，因為那時永恆主已在你前頭去攻擊非利士人的軍兵了。』大衛照永恆主所吩咐的去行，就攻擊非利士人、從迦巴直到基色。
