你怎樣處置耶利哥和耶利哥的王，也當照樣處置艾城和艾城的王。只是城內所奪的財物和牲畜，你們可以取為自己的掠物。你要在城的後面設下伏兵。於是，約書亞和所有作戰的士兵都起來，上艾城去。約書亞選了三萬大能的勇士，夜間派遣他們前去，吩咐他們說：「看，你們要在城的後面埋伏，不可離城太遠，各人都要準備。我與我所帶領的眾士兵要向城前進。城裏的人像上一次那樣出來迎擊我們的時候，我們就在他們面前逃跑。他們會出來追趕我們，直到我們引誘他們遠離那城。因為他們必說：『這些人像上次那樣在我們面前逃跑。』所以我們要在他們面前逃跑。那時，你們就從埋伏的地方起來，奪取那城，因為耶和華－你們的神必把城交在你們的手裏。

大衛求問神說：「我可以上去攻打非利士人嗎？你將他們交在我手裏嗎？」耶和華對他說：「你可以上去，我必將他們交在你手裏。」
