When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There he made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel. It happened just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

耶西就派人去叫他回来。他面色红润，眉清目秀，相貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是他，起来膏立他吧。”撒母耳就拿出盛膏油的角，当着他哥哥们的面膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵降在大卫身上。事后，撒母耳回拉玛去了。

耶和华对撒母耳说：“我已经拒绝让扫罗做以色列王了，你还要为他哀伤多久呢？把你的角盛满膏油，我要差遣你到伯利恒的耶西那里，我已选了他的一个儿子做王。”

犹大人到希伯仑膏立大卫做犹大支派的王。大卫听说是基列·雅比人埋葬了扫罗，

你要请耶西参加献祭，我会告诉你怎么做，我会指示你膏立谁。”

以色列的长老都到希伯仑见大卫王，大卫与他们在耶和华面前立约，他们膏立大卫做以色列的王。

耶何耶大让王及民众与耶和华立约，做耶和华的子民，也让王与民众立约。

于是，耶弗他便跟他们一起回去。民众拥立他做他们的首领和元帅。耶弗他在米斯巴将之前所说的话在耶和华面前重申一遍。

全体会众到上帝的殿中与王立约。耶何耶大对他们说：“王的儿子当做王！这是耶和华对大卫子孙的应许。

耶和华应验了祂借着我所说的预言，祂已把你的国权夺去，交给了你的同胞大卫。

于是，他们来到吉甲，在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又向耶和华献上平安祭。扫罗和全体以色列人都非常欢喜。

他的臣仆用车把他的尸体从米吉多运回耶路撒冷，安葬在他的墓穴里。民众膏立他儿子约哈斯做王。

二人在耶和华面前立了约。之后，大卫仍留在何利沙，约拿单则回家去了。

撒母耳对他说：“耶和华今天已经从你身上拿走了以色列国的王位，赐给了一个比你好的人。
