撒母耳曰。爾之同儔、較爾尤善、爾為以色列王、自今以後耶和華將絕爾國祚、以畀同儔。

今爾不守厥命、故爾國祚不永耶和華更簡一人、合乎其意、使為民長。

耶和華謂撒母耳曰、掃羅為以色列王、我不永其祚、汝為懷憂、伊於何底。可盛膏於角、我將遣爾至伯利恆人耶西所、其眾子中我簡其一、立之為王。

昔耶和華命我之言、今將行之、奪爾國祚、畀爾同儔大闢。

問於耶和華、耶和華不答、亦不以夢寐、烏陵、先知而示。

耶和華諭以色列族曰、我豈非拯爾於埃及人、亞摩哩人、亞捫人、非利士人者乎。昔西頓人、亞馬力人、馬雲人虐爾、爾籲時、我援爾於其手。汝乃棄我、事他上帝、故不復救爾。爾所簡之上帝、爾可籲之、使彼拯爾於難。以色列族曰、我已犯罪、任爾譴責、惟祈今日得救為幸。遂去他上帝、事耶和華。耶和華見以色列族困苦、則中心愀然。

嗣後至希伯崙、欲使掃羅國祚歸於大闢、循耶和華命、有群眾預備以戰、其數如左。

昔耶和華誓、移掃羅國祚、立大闢為王、治以色列族與猶大族、自但及別是巴、今我亦將助之、否、則願上帝降罰於我。

又曰、爾子悉在於此乎。曰、尚有季者牧羊。撒母耳曰、速召之、我不少坐以食、待季者至。遂召之至、其容赤色、雙眸炯然、丰采甚都。耶和華曰、斯人是也。速沐以膏。撒母耳取角中之膏以沐之、兄弟咸睹、自是以後、耶和華之神感大闢、撒母耳啟行、歸於拉馬。○

亞述人之所為、非欲成我之志、其意乃為翦滅列邦。

以惡報善者、災害不離其家。

人子、斯人之於偶像、中則崇敬之、外則瞻禮之、自陷於惡、豈得諮諏於我乎。故爾當以我耶和華之命、播告斯眾、曰、以色列族之於偶像、中則崇敬之、外則瞻禮之、自陷於惡、後就先知、諮諏於我、我耶和華、必視其偶像之多寡、而降以罰、使以色列族內自訟、因其背我、崇敬偶像。當告以色列族曰、主耶和華命爾棄偶像、勿崇可惡之物、

以色列族長老、既至希伯崙覲王、大闢與之立約、在耶和華前、長老以膏沐大闢、立為以色列王。

主曰、人以斧鋸、斬伐林木、斧鋸得自以為功乎、以杖箠扑人、杖箠能自運動、而自視為非木乎、
