Rejoicing in Heaven

1After this I heard 19:1 See ch. 11:15what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,

“Hallelujah!

19:1 ch. 4:11; 7:10; 12:10Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

2for 19:2 ch. 15:3; 16:7his judgments are true and just;

for he has judged 19:2 See ch. 17:1the great prostitute

who corrupted the earth with her immorality,

and 19:2 Deut. 32:43; 2 Kgs. 9:7; [ch. 16:6]; See ch. 6:10has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3Once more they cried out,

“Hallelujah!

19:3 ch. 18:9, 18; Isa. 34:10; [ch. 14:11]The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”

4And 19:4 ch. 4:4, 6, 10; 5:14the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!”

5And from the throne came a voice saying,

19:5 Ps. 22:23; 113:1; 134:1; 135:1“Praise our God,

all you his servants,

19:5 ch. 11:18you who fear him,

small and great.”

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

6Then I heard what seemed to be 19:6 Dan. 10:6; [ver. 1] the voice of a great multitude, like 19:6 See ch. 1:15the roar of many waters and 19:6 ch. 6:1; 14:2like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

“Hallelujah!

For the Lord our God

the Almighty 19:6 ch. 11:15, 17; Ps. 97:1reigns.

7Let us rejoice and exult

and give him the glory,

for 19:7 Matt. 22:2; 25:10; Luke 12:36; 14:8; John 2:1; [Eph. 5:22-32] the marriage of the Lamb has come,

and 19:7 ch. 21:2, 9; [Isa. 54:5; Hos. 2:19, 20]his Bride has made herself ready;

819:8 [Ps. 45:13-15; Ezek. 16:10] it was granted her to clothe herself

with fine linen, bright and pure”—

for the fine linen is 19:8 [Ps. 132:9; Isa. 61:10]the righteous deeds of the saints.

9And the angel said19:9 Greek he said to me, “Write this: 19:9 Luke 14:15; See ver. 7Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, 19:9 [ch. 21:5; 22:6]“These are the true words of God.”

10Then 19:10 ch. 22:8I fell down at his feet to worship him, 19:10 ch. 22:9; See Acts 10:26but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to 19:10 ch. 1:2; 6:9; 12:17the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Rider on a White Horse

11Then I saw 19:11 See Ezek. 1:1heaven opened, and behold, 19:11 See ch. 6:2a white horse! The one sitting on it is called 19:11 See ch. 3:7, 14Faithful and True, and 19:11 [Ps. 96:13; Isa. 11:4]in righteousness he judges and makes war.

1219:12 ch. 1:14; 2:18His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are 19:12 [ch. 12:3] many diadems, and he has 19:12 ver. 16; ch. 2:17; [Prov. 30:4]a name written that no one knows but himself.

13He is clothed in 19:13 Isa. 63:2, 3a robe dipped in19:13 Some manuscripts sprinkled with blood, and the name by which he is called is 19:13 See John 1:1The Word of God.

14And the armies of heaven, 19:14 ch. 3:4; 7:9arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, 19:14 [ch. 14:20]were following him on white horses.

1519:15 ver. 21; See ch. 1:16From his mouth comes a sharp sword 19:15 [Isa. 11:4; 2 Thess. 2:8] with which to strike down the nations, and 19:15 ch. 2:27; 12:5he will rule19:15 Greek shepherd them with a rod of iron. 19:15 ch. 14:20; Isa. 63:3He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

16On his robe and on his thigh 19:16 ver. 12he has a name written, 19:16 See ch. 17:14King of kings and Lord of lords.

17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to 19:17 ver. 21all the birds that fly directly overhead, 19:17 Jer. 12:9; Ezek. 39:17“Come, gather for 19:17 [Isa. 34:6; Jer. 46:10; Ezek. 39:19]the great supper of God,

1819:18 Ezek. 39:18, 20to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,19:18 For the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface both small and great.”

19And I saw 19:19 ch. 11:7; 13:1the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies 19:19 ch. 16:16gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.

20And the beast was captured, and with it 19:20 ch. 16:13; 20:10the false prophet 19:20 ch. 13:11-14who in its presence19:20 Or on its behalf had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who 19:20 See ch. 13:15worshiped its image. These two were 19:20 ch. 20:10, 14, 15; [Dan. 7:11] thrown alive into the lake of 19:20 ch. 14:10; 21:8; See 2 Thess. 1:8fire that burns with sulfur.

21And the rest were slain by the sword 19:21 ver. 15that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and 19:21 ver. 17all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
