1989:19 [ver. 3, 4] Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,89:19 Some Hebrew manuscripts godly ones and said:
“I have 89:19 [Ps. 21:5] granted help to one who is 89:19 2 Sam. 17:10mighty;
I have exalted one 89:19 See ver. 3chosen from the people.
2089:20 Cited Acts 13:22I have found David, my servant;
with my holy oil I have 89:20 1 Sam. 16:13anointed him,
21so that my 89:21 Ps. 80:17hand shall be established with him;
my arm also shall strengthen him.
22The enemy shall not outwit him;
89:22 [2 Sam. 7:10]the wicked shall not humble him.
23I will 89:23 [2 Sam. 7:9]; See Ps. 2:9crush his foes before him
and strike down those who hate him.
24My 89:24 ver. 1faithfulness and my 89:24 ver. 1steadfast love shall be with him,
and in my name shall his 89:24 ver. 17horn be exalted.
25I will set his hand on 89:25 See Ps. 72:8the sea
and his right hand on 89:25 See Ps. 72:8the rivers.
26He shall cry to me, ‘You are my 89:26 [2 Sam. 7:14] Father,
my God, and 89:26 [Ps. 18:2]the Rock of my salvation.’
27And I will make him the 89:27 Ex. 4:22; [Rom. 8:29; Col. 1:15, 18; Heb. 1:5] firstborn,
89:27 Num. 24:7; [Rev. 19:16]the highest of the kings of the earth.
28My steadfast love I will keep for him forever,
and my 89:28 See ver. 3covenant will stand firm89:28 Or will remain faithful for him.
29I will establish his 89:29 See ver. 4offspring forever
and his 89:29 See ver. 4throne as 89:29 See Job 14:12the days of the heavens.
3089:30 2 Sam. 7:14; 1 Kgs. 2:4If his children forsake my law
and do not walk according to my rules,89:30 Or my just decrees
31if they violate my statutes
and do not keep my commandments,
32then I will punish their transgression with 89:32 See Job 9:34the rod
and their iniquity with stripes,
33but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
or be false to my faithfulness.
34I will not violate my 89:34 [See ver. 28above]covenant
or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35Once for all I have sworn 89:35 See Ps. 60:6by my holiness;
I will not 89:35 [Heb. 6:18]lie to David.
36His 89:36 [See ver. 29above] offspring shall endure forever,
89:36 See ver. 4his 89:36 [See ver. 29above] throne as long as 89:36 See Ps. 72:5the sun before me.
37Like 89:37 [See ver. 36above] the moon it shall be established forever,
89:37 See Job 16:19a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah

38But now you have 89:38 See Ps. 44:9cast off and rejected;
you are full of wrath against your 89:38 ver. 20, 51anointed.
39You have 89:39 Lam. 2:7renounced 89:39 See ver. 3the covenant with your servant;
you have 89:39 See Ps. 74:7defiled his 89:39 Job 19:9crown in the dust.
40You have 89:40 See Ps. 80:12breached all his walls;
you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
4189:41 [See ver. 40above] All who pass by plunder him;
he has become 89:41 [ver. 50]; See Ps. 44:13; 69:9, 19the scorn of his neighbors.
42You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
you have made all his enemies rejoice.
43You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
and you have not made him stand in battle.
44You have made his splendor to cease
and cast his throne to the ground.
45You have cut short 89:45 Ps. 102:23the days of his youth;
you have 89:45 Ps. 71:13; 109:29covered him with shame. Selah

4689:46 See Ps. 13:1How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
How long will your wrath 89:46 Ps. 78:63; 79:5burn like fire?
4789:47 Job 7:7; 10:9Remember 89:47 [Job 14:1] how short my 89:47 Ps. 39:5time is!
For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
4889:48 [Ps. 49:9] What man can live and never 89:48 [Luke 2:26; Heb. 11:5] see death?
Who can deliver his soul from the power of 89:48 See Ps. 16:10Sheol? Selah

49Lord, where is your 89:49 [ver. 1, 2]steadfast love of old,
which by your 89:49 [ver. 1, 2]faithfulness you swore to David?
5089:50 [ver. 41]; See Ps. 74:18, 22Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked,
and how I bear in my 89:50 Ps. 79:12heart the insults89:50 Hebrew lacks the insults of all the many nations,
51with which your enemies mock, O Lord,
with which they mock 89:51 [Ps. 17:11; 56:6] the footsteps of your 89:51 ver. 20, 38anointed.

5289:52 See Ps. 41:13Blessed be the Lord forever!
