1O God, do not keep silence;

83:1 See Ps. 28:1do not hold your peace or be still, O God!

2For behold, your enemies 83:2 [Ps. 2:1] make an uproar;

those who hate you have 83:2 Judg. 8:28raised their heads.

3They lay 83:3 [Neh. 4:8] crafty plans against your people;

they consult together against your 83:3 See Ps. 27:5; 31:20treasured ones.

4They say, “Come, 83:4 Jer. 48:2; [Ps. 74:8; Esth. 3:6]let us wipe them out as a nation;

let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”

5For they conspire with one accord;

against you they make a covenant—

6the tents of 83:6 Ps. 137:7; See 2 Chr. 20:10Edom and 83:6 See Gen. 25:12-16the Ishmaelites,

83:6 2 Chr. 20:10Moab and 83:6 1 Chr. 5:10the Hagrites,

11Make their nobles like 83:11 Judg. 7:25; 8:3Oreb and Zeeb,

all their princes like 83:11 See Judg. 8:5-21Zebah and Zalmunna,

12who said, 83:12 [2 Chr. 20:11]“Let us take possession for ourselves

of the pastures of God.”

13O my God, make them like 83:13 Isa. 17:13whirling dust,83:13 Or like a tumbleweed

like 83:13 Job 13:25; 21:18; [Ps. 1:4]chaff before the wind.

14As 83:14 [Isa. 9:18]; See Isa. 10:16-19fire consumes the forest,

as the flame 83:14 Deut. 32:22sets the mountains ablaze,

15so may you pursue them 83:15 Job 9:17with your tempest

and terrify them with your hurricane!

that they may seek your name, O Lord.

17Let them be 83:17 Ps. 35:4put to shame and dismayed forever;

let them perish in disgrace,
