The Genealogy of Jesus Christ

17So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to 1:17 ch. 2:4; 11:2; 16:16; 22:42; 23:10; Mark 8:29; Luke 3:15; [John 1:41; 4:25]the Christ fourteen generations.

The Birth of Jesus Christ

18Now the birth of 1:18 ver. 1; Mark 1:1; John 1:17; 17:3; [ver. 16] Jesus Christ1:18 Some manuscripts of the Christ took place in this way. 1:18 Luke 1:27When his mother Mary had been betrothed1:18 That is, legally pledged to be married to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child 1:18 Luke 1:35from the Holy Spirit.

19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling 1:19 [Deut. 24:1]to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.

20But as he considered these things, behold, 1:20 ch. 2:13, 19; [ch. 2:12, 22]an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

21She will bear a son, and 1:21 ver. 25; Luke 1:31; 2:21you shall call his name Jesus, 1:21 Luke 2:11; Acts 4:12; 5:31; 13:23, 38; [Acts 3:26]for he will save his people from their sins.”

221:22 ch. 21:4; 26:56; John 19:36All this took place 1:22 ch. 2:15, 23; 4:14; Mark 14:49to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

231:23 Cited from Isa. 7:14“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall call his name 1:23 Isa. 8:8, 10Immanuel”

(which means, God 1:23 See ch. 28:20with us).

24When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,

25but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And 1:25 ver. 21he called his name Jesus.
