The Way to the Father

Jesus Reveals the Father

8“Lord,” said Philip,14:8 Mk 3:18 “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”

9Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father.14:9 Jn 5:19,37; 12:45How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Another Counselor Promised

18“I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.

20On that day you will know that I am in my Father,14:20 Jn 14:10you are in me, and I am in you.

23Jesus answered, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.14:23 Jn 14:2; 1Jn 2:24

25“I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.

Jesus’s Gift of Peace

27“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.14:27 2Tm 1:7

28You have heard me tell you, ‘I am going away14:28 Jn 16:5and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father,14:28 Jn 16:10because the Father is greater than I.14:28 Jn 10:29; 1Jn 3:20; 4:4

29I have told you now before it happens14:29 Jn 13:19; 16:4so that when it does happen you may believe.

30I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world14:30 Mt 4:1; Jn 12:31is coming. He has no power over me.14:30 Lit He has nothing in me14:30 Lk 4:6

31On the contrary, so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do as the Father commanded me.
