Jeremiah 第5章
Jerusalem Refused to Repent
15:1 [2 Chr. 16:9] Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,
look and take note!
Search her squares to see
5:1 See Gen. 18:23-32if you can find a man,
one who does justice
and seeks truth,
5:1 [ver. 7]that I may pardon her.
5:2 ch. 7:9yet they swear falsely.
3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth?
5:3 See ch. 2:30You have struck them down,
but they felt no anguish;
you have consumed them,
but they refused to take correction.
5:3 Ezek. 3:8They have made their faces harder than rock;
they have refused to repent.
4Then I said, “These are only the poor;
they have no sense;
the justice of their God.
5I will go to the great
and will speak to them,
for they know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.”
they had burst the bonds.
5:6 Hos. 13:7A leopard is watching their cities;
everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces,
because their transgressions are many,
their 5:6 ch. 2:19apostasies are great.
Your children have forsaken me
5:7 Deut. 32:21; Josh. 23:7; 2 Chr. 13:9; Gal. 4:8and have sworn by those who are no gods.
5:7 Deut. 32:15When I fed them to the full,
5:7 Mic. 5:1and trooped to the houses of whores.
8They were well-fed, lusty stallions,
5:8 ch. 13:27; 50:11each neighing 5:8 Ezek. 22:11for his neighbor’s wife.
declares the Lord;
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?
5:10 See ch. 4:27but make not a full end;
strip away her branches,
for they are not the Lord’s.
have been utterly treacherous to me,
declares the Lord.
12They have spoken falsely of the Lord
and have said, ‘He will do nothing;
5:12 [Gen. 3:4] no disaster will come upon us,
5:12 [ch. 14:13; Isa. 28:15]nor shall we see sword or famine.
13The prophets will become wind;
the word is not in them.
Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts:
“Because you have spoken this word,
behold, 5:14 [ch. 1:9, 10] I am making my words in your mouth 5:14 [Obad. 18; Zech. 12:6; Rev. 11:5]a fire,
and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them.
a nation from afar, O house of Israel,
declares the Lord.
It is an enduring nation;
it is an ancient nation,
a nation whose language you do not know,
5:15 Isa. 33:19nor can you understand what they say.
they are all mighty warriors.
175:17 Lev. 26:16; Deut. 28:31, 33, 51They shall eat up your harvest and your food;
they shall eat up your sons and your daughters;
they shall eat up your flocks and your herds;
they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees;
your 5:17 [Hos. 8:14]fortified cities in which you trust
they shall beat down with the sword.”
18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, 5:18 [See ver. 10above]I will not make a full end of you.
19And when your people say, 5:19 ch. 13:22; 16:10, 11; 22:8, 9; Deut. 29:24, 25; 1 Kgs. 9:8, 9‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, 5:19 Deut. 4:27, 28; 28:47, 48, 68so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’”
20Declare this in the house of Jacob;
proclaim it in Judah:
21“Hear this, 5:21 Deut. 32:6; Isa. 6:9O foolish and senseless people,
5:21 [Matt. 13:14]who have eyes, but see not,
who have ears, but hear not.
Do you not tremble before me?
a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass;
though the waves toss, they cannot prevail;
they have turned aside and gone away.
24They do not say in their hearts,
‘Let us fear the Lord our God,
5:24 ch. 14:22; Deut. 11:14; Job 5:10; Ps. 147:8; Matt. 5:45who gives the rain in its season,
the autumn rain and the spring rain,
and keeps for us
5:24 Gen. 8:22the weeks appointed for the harvest.’
and your sins have kept good from you.
26For wicked men are found among my people;
5:26 [Prov. 1:11] they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.5:26 The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain
they catch men.
27Like a cage full of birds,
their houses are full of deceit;
therefore they have become great and rich;
285:28 Deut. 32:15they have grown fat and sleek.
They know no bounds in deeds of evil;
5:28 [ch. 7:6; Isa. 1:23; Zech. 7:10]they judge not with justice
the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
and they do not defend the rights of the needy.
declares the Lord,
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?”
has happened in the land:
and the priests rule at their direction;
5:31 [Mic. 2:11]my people love to have it so,
but what will you do when the end comes?
