The Supremacy of God’s Son

1Long ago, at many times and 1:1 [Num. 12:6, 8; Joel 2:28]in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,

2but 1:2 1 Pet. 1:20; [ch. 9:26; Acts 2:17] in these last days 1:2 ch. 2:3he has spoken to us by 1:2 See Matt. 14:33his Son, whom he appointed 1:2 Ps. 2:8; Matt. 21:38; See Matt. 28:18the heir of all things, 1:2 [ch. 3:3]; See John 1:3through whom also he created 1:2 ch. 11:3the world.

3He is the radiance of the glory of God and 1:3 See 2 Cor. 4:4the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. 1:3 See ch. 9:14After making purification for sins, 1:3 See Mark 16:19he sat down 1:3 [Luke 22:69]at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

4having become as much superior to angels as the name 1:4 Eph. 1:21; Phil. 2:9he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

5For to which of the angels did God ever say,

today I have begotten you”?

Or again,

1:5 Cited from 2 Sam. 7:14; [Ps. 89:26, 27]“I will be to him a father,

and he shall be to me a son”?

6And again, when he brings 1:6 See Rom. 8:29the firstborn into the world, he says,

7Of the angels he says,

1:7 Cited from Ps. 104:4“He makes his angels winds,

and his ministers a flame of fire.”

8But of the Son he says,

1:8 Cited from Ps. 45:6, 7“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,

the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;

therefore God, your God, 1:9 Isa. 61:1has anointed you

with 1:9 Isa. 61:3the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

10And,

1:10 Cited from Ps. 102:25-27“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,

and the heavens are the work of your hands;

11they will perish, but you remain;

they will all wear out like a garment,

12like a robe you will roll them up,

and your years will have no end.”

13And to which of the angels has he ever said,
