Jerusalem Will Be Destroyed
1“And you, 5:1 See ch. 2:1O son of man, take a 5:1 Ps. 57:4; Isa. 49:2sharp sword. Use it as 5:1 [Isa. 7:20] a barber’s razor and 5:1 [ch. 1:3; 44:20; Lev. 21:5]pass it over your head and your beard. Then take balances for weighing and divide the hair.
25:2 See ver. 12A third part you shall burn in the fire 5:2 [ver. 5; ch. 4:1] in the midst of the city, 5:2 See ch. 4:8when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. 5:2 [ver. 10] And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and 5:2 ver. 12; ch. 12:14; [Jer. 9:16]I will unsheathe the sword after them.
35:3 [Jer. 40:6; 52:16]And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe.
45:4 [Jer. 42:18; 44:14]And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.
5“Thus says the Lord God: 5:5 [ver. 2; ch. 4:1] This is Jerusalem. I have set her 5:5 [ch. 38:12]in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.
6And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness 5:6 See ch. 16:47, 48more than the nations, and against my statutes more than 5:6 [See ver. 5above]the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes.
7Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are 5:7 Ps. 2:1; 46:6more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, 5:7 ch. 16:47and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, 5:7 [ch. 11:12]and have not5:7 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac lack not even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you,
8therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, 5:8 See ch. 13:8am against you. 5:8 ch. 11:9; 16:41; 23:10And I will execute judgments5:8 The same Hebrew expression can mean obey rules, or execute judgments, depending on the context in your midst 5:8 ch. 22:16in the sight of the nations.
9And because of all your abominations I will do with you 5:9 [2 Kgs. 21:12, 13; Lam. 1:12; Dan. 9:12]what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again.
10Therefore 5:10 See Jer. 19:9fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers. 5:10 [See ver. 8above] And I will execute judgments on you, 5:10 ch. 12:14; 17:21; 22:15; 36:19; Deut. 28:64; Jer. 9:16; 15:4; Zech. 2:6; [ver. 2; ch. 36:19]and any of you who survive I will scatter to all the winds.
11Therefore, 5:11 See ch. 16:48as I live, declares the Lord God, surely, 5:11 ch. 8:3, 5, 6; 23:39; 2 Chr. 36:14; Jer. 7:30because you have defiled my sanctuary 5:11 ch. 11:18with all your detestable things and with all your 5:11 ch. 7:20; 11:18, 21abominations, 5:11 ch. 16:27therefore I will withdraw.5:11 Some Hebrew manuscripts I will cut you down5:11 ch. 7:4, 9; 8:18; 9:5, 10; [Jer. 21:7]My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity.
125:12 [ver. 2; ch. 6:11, 12; Jer. 15:2]A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; 5:12 [ver. 2; ch. 6:11, 12; Jer. 15:2]a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; 5:12 [ver. 2; ch. 6:11, 12; Jer. 15:2]and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.
135:13 ch. 6:12; 7:8; 20:8, 21; Lam. 4:11; [ch. 39:25] “Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that 5:13 ch. 36:5, 6; 38:19I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—5:13 ch. 6:12; 7:8; 20:8, 21; Lam. 4:11; [ch. 39:25] when I spend my fury upon them.
14Moreover, I will make you 5:14 ch. 6:6; See Jer. 22:5a desolation and 5:14 ch. 22:4; Neh. 2:17; Ps. 79:4; Jer. 24:9an object of reproach among 5:14 ver. 5, 6the nations all around you and in the sight of all who pass by.

16when I send against you5:16 Hebrew them5:16 Deut. 32:23, 24the deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon 5:16 See ch. 4:16you and break your supply5:16 Hebrew staff of bread.
17I will send famine and 5:17 ch. 14:15; 33:27; 34:25; Deut. 32:24; [2 Kgs. 17:25] wild beasts against you, 5:17 [ch. 36:12] and they will rob you of your children. Pestilence and 5:17 ch. 38:22blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I am the Lord; I have spoken.”
