A Lament over Pharaoh and Egypt

132:1 See ch. 20:1In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

232:2 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, 32:2 See ch. 19:1raise a lamentation over 32:2 ch. 29:2Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

“You consider yourself 32:2 ch. 19:3, 5, 6; 38:13a lion of the nations,

but you are like 32:2 ch. 29:3a dragon 32:2 [Isa. 18:2] in the seas;

32:2 [ver. 14; Jer. 46:8]you burst forth in your rivers,

trouble the waters with your feet,

and foul their rivers.

3Thus says the Lord God:

32:3 See ch. 12:13I will throw my net over you

with a host of 32:3 [ch. 26:3] many peoples,

and 32:3 [ch. 29:4]they will haul you up in my dragnet.

4And 32:4 [ch. 29:5]I will cast you on the ground;

on the open field I will fling you,

and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle on you,

and I will gorge the beasts of the whole earth with you.

5I will strew your flesh 32:5 [ch. 31:12]upon the mountains

and fill the valleys with your carcass.32:5 Hebrew your height

6I will drench the land even to the mountains

with your flowing blood,

and the ravines will be full of you.

732:7 [Isa. 14:12] When I blot you out, 32:7 [Isa. 13:10; Joel 2:31; Matt. 24:29; Mark 13:24, 25]I will cover the heavens

and make their stars dark;

I will cover the sun with a cloud,

and the moon shall not give its light.

8All the bright lights of heaven

will I make dark over you,

and 32:8 [Ex. 10:21; Isa. 5:30]put darkness on your land,

declares the Lord God.

9“I will trouble the hearts of many peoples, when I bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries that you have not known.

1032:10 [ch. 27:35] I will make many peoples appalled at you, and the hair of their kings shall bristle with horror because of you, when 32:10 [1 Chr. 21:16] I brandish my sword before them. 32:10 ch. 26:16; [Deut. 28:66]They shall tremble every moment, every one for his own life, on the day of your downfall.

11“For thus says the Lord God: 32:11 [ch. 29:8, 19]; See Jer. 46:26The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.

12I will cause 32:12 See ch. 31:2your multitude to fall by the swords of mighty ones, all of them 32:12 See ch. 28:7most ruthless of nations.

32:12 ch. 29:19“They shall bring to ruin the pride of Egypt,

and all its multitude32:12 Or wealth shall perish.

13I will destroy all its beasts

from beside many waters;

32:13 ch. 29:11and no foot of man shall trouble them anymore,

nor shall the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

14Then 32:14 [ver. 2]I will make their waters clear,

and cause their rivers to run like oil,

declares the Lord God.

15When I make the land of Egypt desolate,

and when the land 32:15 [ch. 12:19] is desolate of all that fills it,

when I strike down all who dwell in it,

then 32:15 [Ex. 7:5]; See ch. 6:7they will know that I am the Lord.

1632:16 [ver. 2] This is a lamentation that shall be chanted; the daughters of the nations shall chant it; over Egypt, and over 32:16 See ch. 31:2all her multitude, shall they chant it, declares the Lord God.”

1832:18 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, 32:18 [ver. 2] wail over 32:18 [See ver. 16above] the multitude of Egypt, and 32:18 [ch. 26:20; 31:16] send them down, her and the daughters of majestic nations, 32:18 See ch. 31:14to the world below, to those who have gone down to the pit:

1932:19 [ch. 31:2, 18] ‘Whom do you surpass in beauty?

Go down and 32:19 ver. 32; See ver. 28-30be laid to rest with the uncircumcised.’

20They shall fall amid those 32:20 ch. 31:17, 18who are slain by the sword. Egypt32:20 Hebrew She is delivered to the sword; drag her away, and 32:20 See ch. 31:2all her multitudes.

21The mighty chiefs 32:21 Isa. 14:9, 10shall speak of them, 32:21 [ch. 30:6, 8] with their helpers, out of the midst of Sheol: ‘They have come down, they lie still, 32:21 ch. 28:10; 31:18the uncircumcised, 32:21 [See ver. 20above]slain by the sword.’

2232:22 [ver. 24, 26, 29, 30] “Assyria is there, and all her company, 32:22 ver. 25, 26its graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword,

23whose graves are set in 32:23 Isa. 14:15the uttermost parts of the pit; and her company is all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, 32:23 ver. 24, 25, 26, 27; [ch. 26:17] who spread terror 32:23 Ps. 27:13in the land of the living.

2532:25 [Isa. 30:33] They have made her a bed among the slain with all her multitude, 32:25 [ver. 22]her graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for terror of them was spread in the land of the living, and they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are placed among the slain.

27And 32:27 [Isa. 14:18, 19]they do not lie with the mighty, the fallen from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads, and whose iniquities are upon their bones; for the terror of the mighty men was in the land of the living.

28But as for you, you shall be broken 32:28 ch. 28:10; 31:18and lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.

30“The princes 32:30 [ch. 38:6; 39:2] of the north are there, all of them, and all the 32:30 ch. 28:21; See Isa. 23:2Sidonians, who have gone down in shame with the slain, 32:30 ver. 23for all the terror that they caused by their might; they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and 32:30 See ver. 24bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

31“When Pharaoh sees them, he 32:31 [ch. 31:16] will be comforted for 32:31 See ch. 31:2all his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord God.

3232:32 [ver. 10] For I spread terror 32:32 ver. 23in the land of the living; and he shall be laid to rest among 32:32 ver. 21, 27the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord God.”
