A Lament for Egypt
1The word of the Lord came to me:
230:2 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord God:

30:2 See Isa. 13:6“Wail, ‘Alas for the day!’
330:3 [See ver. 2above] For the day is near,
30:3 ch. 7:7, 12; Joel 1:15; 2:1; Zeph. 1:7the day of the Lord is near;
it will be 30:3 ch. 34:12a day of clouds,
a time of doom for30:3 Hebrew lacks doom for the nations.
430:4 ch. 29:8A sword shall come upon Egypt,
30:4 [Isa. 21:3] and anguish shall be in 30:4 [Isa. 43:3] Cush,
when the slain fall in Egypt,
and 30:4 ch. 29:19her wealth30:4 Or multitude; also verse 10 is carried away,
and 30:4 [ver. 6]her foundations are torn down.

530:5 [See ver. 4above] Cush, and 30:5 See ch. 27:10Put, and Lud, and 30:5 See Jer. 25:20all Arabia, and Libya,30:5 With Septuagint; Hebrew Cub and the people of the land that is in league,30:5 Hebrew and the sons of the land of the covenant shall fall with them by the sword.

6“Thus says the Lord:
30:6 [ch. 32:21] Those who support Egypt shall fall,
and 30:6 ver. 18; [ch. 33:28] her proud might shall come down;
30:6 ch. 29:10from Migdol to Syene
they shall fall within her by the sword,
declares the Lord God.
730:7 ch. 29:12And they shall be desolated in the midst of desolated countries,
and their cities shall be in the midst of cities that are laid waste.
830:8 ch. 29:6; See ch. 6:7Then they will know that I am the Lord,
when 30:8 [ch. 28:18] I have set fire to Egypt,
and 30:8 [See ver. 6above]all her helpers are broken.

9“On that day 30:9 [Isa. 18:1, 2] messengers shall go out from me in ships to terrify the unsuspecting 30:9 [See ver. 4above] people of Cush, and 30:9 [See ver. 4above]anguish shall come upon them on the day of Egypt’s doom;30:9 Hebrew the day of Egypt for, behold, it comes!
10“Thus says the Lord God:

30:10 See ch. 29:19“I will put an end to the wealth of Egypt,
by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11He and his people with him, 30:11 See ch. 28:7the most ruthless of nations,
shall be brought in to destroy the land,
30:11 [See ver. 4above]and they shall draw their swords against Egypt
and fill the land with the slain.
12And 30:12 Isa. 19:5, 6; [ch. 29:10] I will 30:12 [ch. 29:3] dry up the Nile
and will sell the land into the hand of 30:12 [Isa. 19:4] evildoers;
30:12 [ch. 29:10] I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it,
by the hand of 30:12 See ch. 28:7foreigners;
30:12 See ch. 17:24I am the Lord; I have spoken.

13“Thus says the Lord God:

30:13 See Jer. 43:12“I will destroy the idols
and put an end to the images in 30:13 Isa. 19:13Memphis;
30:13 [ch. 29:15; Zech. 10:11] there shall no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt;
so 30:13 [Isa. 19:16]I will put fear in the land of Egypt.
14I will make 30:14 ch. 29:14; See Isa. 11:11Pathros a desolation
and will set fire to 30:14 See Num. 13:22Zoan
30:14 ver. 19and will execute judgments on 30:14 Jer. 46:25Thebes.
15And I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium,
the stronghold of Egypt,
and cut off the multitude30:15 Or wealth of Thebes.
16And I will set fire to Egypt;
Pelusium shall be in great agony;
Thebes shall be breached,
and 30:16 [See ver. 13above]Memphis shall face enemies30:16 Or distress by day.
17The young men of On and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword,
and the women30:17 Or the cities; Hebrew they shall go into captivity.
18At 30:18 See Jer. 2:16Tehaphnehes 30:18 [Jer. 15:9; Amos 8:9] the day shall be dark,
when I break there the yoke bars of Egypt,
and 30:18 ver. 6her proud might shall come to an end in her;
she shall be covered by a cloud,
and her daughters shall go into captivity.
19Thus 30:19 ver. 14I will execute judgments on Egypt.
30:19 See ch. 6:7Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
Egypt Shall Fall to Babylon
2030:20 See ch. 20:1In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:
2130:21 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, 30:21 [Jer. 48:25] I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and behold, 30:21 [Jer. 30:13; 46:11]it has not been bound up, to heal it by binding it with a bandage, so that it may become strong to wield the sword.
22Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt and 30:22 See ver. 21will break his arms, both the strong arm and the one that was broken, and I will make the sword fall from his hand.
2330:23 ch. 29:12I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them through the countries.
24And 30:24 ver. 10I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put 30:24 See ch. 21:3my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him 30:24 Job 24:12like a man mortally wounded.
25I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh shall fall. 30:25 See ch. 6:7Then they shall know that I am the Lord, 30:25 [ver. 8]when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.
26And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
