A Lament for Tyre
1The word of the Lord came to me:
“O Tyre, you have said,
‘I am 27:3 ch. 28:12perfect in beauty.’
your builders made perfect your beauty.
5They made all your planks
of fir trees from 27:5 Deut. 3:9Senir;
they took 27:5 Judg. 9:15a cedar from Lebanon
to make a mast for you.
they made your oars;
they made your deck of pines
from 27:6 See Gen. 10:4the coasts of Cyprus,
inlaid with ivory.
was your sail,
serving as your banner;
blue and purple from 27:7 [See ver. 6above]the coasts of Elishah
was your awning.
8The inhabitants of Sidon and 27:8 Gen. 10:18Arvad
were your rowers;
your skilled men, O Tyre, were in you;
they were 27:8 ver. 27, 29your pilots.

all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you
to barter for your wares.

26“Your rowers have brought you out
into the high seas.

and all your men of war who are in you,
with all your crew
that is in your midst,
sink into the heart of the seas
28At the sound of the cry of your pilots
29and down from their ships
27:29 [Rev. 18:17, 18]come all who handle the oar.
The mariners and all the pilots of the sea
stand on the land
and cry out bitterly.

and put sackcloth on their waist,
and they weep over you in bitterness of soul,
with bitter mourning.
and lament over you:
27:32 [Rev. 18:18]‘Who is like Tyre,
like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33When your wares came from the seas,
27:33 [Rev. 18:15, 19]you satisfied many peoples;
with your abundant wealth and merchandise
27:33 [Rev. 18:15, 19]you enriched the kings of the earth.
in the depths of the waters;
your merchandise and all your crew in your midst
have sunk with you.
are appalled at you,
and 27:35 [ch. 32:10]the hair of their kings bristles with horror;
their faces are convulsed.
and shall be no more forever.’”
