Ezekiel24

The Siege of Jerusalem
124:1 See ch. 20:1In the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:
224:2 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, write down the name of this day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.
3And 24:3 [ch. 17:2; 20:49] utter a parable to 24:3 See ch. 2:5the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God:

“Set on 24:3 ch. 11:3, 7, 11; 2 Kgs. 4:38the pot, set it on;
pour in water also;
4put in it the pieces of meat,
all the good pieces, 24:4 See 1 Sam. 9:24the thigh and the shoulder;
fill it with choice bones.
5Take the choicest one of the flock;
pile the logs24:5 Compare verse 10; Hebrew the bones under it;
boil it well;
seethe also its bones in it.

6“Therefore thus says the Lord God: 24:6 ch. 22:2; [Nah. 3:1] Woe to the bloody city, to 24:6 [See ver. 3above]the pot whose corrosion is in it, and whose corrosion has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece, without making any choice.24:6 Hebrew no lot has fallen upon it
7For the blood she has shed is in her midst; she put it on 24:7 ch. 26:4, 14the bare rock; 24:7 [Lev. 17:13; Deut. 12:16, 24]she did not pour it out on the ground to cover it with dust.
8To rouse my wrath, to take vengeance, I have set on the bare rock the blood she has shed, that it may not be covered.
9Therefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city! 24:9 Isa. 30:33I also will make the pile great.
10Heap on the logs, kindle the fire, boil the meat well, mix in the spices,24:10 Or empty out the broth and let the bones be burned up.
11Then set it empty upon the coals, that it may become hot, and its copper may burn, 24:11 ch. 22:15that its uncleanness may be melted in it, its corrosion consumed.
1224:12 [Jer. 2:22]She has wearied herself with toil;24:12 The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain its abundant corrosion does not go out of it. Into the fire with its corrosion!
13On account of your unclean lewdness, because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed from your uncleanness, 24:13 Isa. 22:14you shall not be cleansed anymore till 24:13 See ch. 5:13I have satisfied my fury upon you.
1424:14 See ch. 17:24I am the Lord. I have spoken; it shall come to pass; I will do it. I will not go back; 24:14 See ch. 5:11I will not spare; 24:14 [Num. 23:19; 1 Sam. 15:29] I will not relent; 24:14 [ch. 20:43; 23:45]according to your ways and your deeds you will be judged, declares the Lord God.”
Ezekiel’s Wife Dies
15The word of the Lord came to me:
1624:16 See ch. 2:1“Son of man, behold, I am about to take the delight of your eyes away from you at a stroke; yet you shall not mourn or weep, nor shall your tears run down.
17Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead. 24:17 See Lev. 10:6Bind on your turban, and 24:17 [2 Sam. 15:30; Isa. 20:2] put your shoes on your feet; do not cover your lips, 24:17 Hos. 9:4; See Jer. 16:5-7nor eat the bread of men.”
18So I spoke to the people in the morning, and 24:18 [ver. 16] at evening my wife died. And on the next morning I did 24:18 ch. 12:7; 37:7as I was commanded.
19And 24:19 See ch. 12:9the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things mean for us, that you are acting thus?”
20Then I said to them, “The word of the Lord came to me:
21‘Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: 24:21 [Jer. 7:14]; See ch. 7:21Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the yearning of your soul, and 24:21 ch. 23:47; See 2 Chr. 36:17your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.
22And 24:22 [ver. 17; ch. 12:11] you shall do as I have done; 24:22 [ver. 17; ch. 12:11] you shall not cover your lips, 24:22 [See ver. 17above]nor eat the bread of men.
2324:23 [See ver. 22above] Your turbans shall be on your heads and your shoes on your feet; you shall not mourn or weep, but 24:23 See ch. 4:17you shall rot away in your iniquities and groan to one another.
24Thus shall Ezekiel be to you 24:24 ver. 27; See ch. 4:3a sign; 24:24 [See ver. 22above] according to all that he has done you shall do. When this comes, then 24:24 See ch. 6:7you will know that I am the Lord God.’
25“As for you, 24:25 See ch. 2:1son of man, surely on the day when I take from them 24:25 [ver. 21]their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes and their soul’s desire, and also their sons and daughters,
2624:26 See ch. 33:21, 22on that day a fugitive will come to you to report to you the news.
27On that day your mouth 24:27 ch. 29:21; [ch. 3:26, 27] will be opened to the fugitive, and you shall speak and be no longer mute. 24:27 ver. 24; See ch. 4:3So you will be a sign to them, and 24:27 See ch. 6:7they will know that I am the Lord.”
